Maetryx here,
This may be a long shot, but I need some assistance in determining if this error is "mine" or the remote database server. When our Microsoft Access workstation tries to connect to the remote Oracle server using the Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle, we get this error message:
(Microsoft)(ODBC driver for Oracle)(Oracle)ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service (#12154)(Microsoft)(ODBC Driver Manager)Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed (#0)
This is almost identical to the error I get when I try to connect with a proprietary program called IQ Objects Personal Edition (apparently based on Oracle 7.3 Personal Edition) that was sent to us by the remote database techies. That error adds Invalid attribute in connection string: DB.
Unfortunately, I don't know enough about database software to sort out these error messages. I'm not sure I'm getting connected to the remote server at all, but given the wait time, it seems like the workstation is trying to negotiate the connnection.
The remote database techies said that the database has been updated to Oracle 8, and that the problem may be in the Oracle 7.3 client they distributed to us. But they're "working on it". I couldn't tell on the phone if they actually knew what the error meant. Please reply if you know anything about these error messages.
