ODBC Connectivity

I wasn't sure where to post this, but the topic is somewhat of a network issue.

What are the chances of an ODBC Client Configuration changing from TCP/IP to Named Pipes on its own?

  • I am fully aware a DSN created by some software will set up Named Pipes as the connection type by default.
  • After install, you have to change to TCP/IP
  • I did not reinstall the software that created the DSN.
  • I am not the only one to have access to this server.
  • I suspect that the Client Configuration cannot change unless someone or some type of software changes it.
  • No software on this server or org. is programmed to change the DSN Client Configuration to Named Pipes.
  • We don't use Named Pipes.

Am I being paranoid? Is someone out to get me? To test me?

I have seen this happen before, I never worked out why, I simply just reset it back. It hasn't happens for over a year now, so I must of fxed it.

If using MS SQL Server, try checking the client configeration utility.
