Great deal! I use one now and it works pretty good. One good thing about it is that there's a switch on it which allows you to switch between your speakers and headphones. I use it a lot on Dialpad, but now I don't have to continually disconnect my speakers everytime I want to talk to somebody. The only thing you have to make sure is that if you're using digital output, you have to turn that off before you can use the mic.
Just walked out of the Winston Salem OD on Northpoint Blvd with 1 sealed Game Voice for $14.88. There were two more that were out of the box, plus a bunch of Sidewinder Precision Pro 2 joysticks for $24.88. Also snagged a couple of lamps, a cordless hot glue gun and some other stuff, then used the 15.00 off a 50.00 coupon and walked out for 40 bucks.
Clearance items vary from store to store, but I walked away happy after a short drive. As Always, Your Mileage May Vary...
Mine won't work through my netgear router, it works if I boot up my system without the router. A real pain in the neck so I don't use it, paid $39.95 for last year...
I bought another one at that price. I had to buy a top line Plantronics headset to replace the headset that comes with game voice for better treble and much better bass. It rang up 24.88 here in Nebraska. Very Important. Game voice works great if you have broadband cable connection. With out it ......you get lots of lag in online games!!
Even if you don't use the Game Voice pad, the Plantronics headset is probably worth more than $14.88, so it could be a great deal for using those other programs. I have used Roger Wilco, and it works well. I like the fact that Game Voice interfaces with MSN Messenger, which I use all the time. If you can find it for 15 bucks, pick one up. You won't be sorry you did.
Agree that the headset is very good and that the overall product is not so hot. Bought two of them last year to use for gaming on my two home systems that are linked via a home phoneline network. The delay in sound transmission was pretty bad, as was the sound quality. Perhaps the network itself has to take some blame on that. Returned the units to Staples without regret.
I am in a top Q3CTF clan (THC) and we have been there and done that with most of these types of programs. Game Voice (GV) is what we have ended up using. There is a freeware version availible. And any gripes that reviewer had about GV are really non-issues. The headset is very good. I wish more headsets were made with a metal boom for the mic, that alone cuts down on extra mic handling noise 10 fold. And I have not seen the dificulty in installation that he saw. Just run the hardware wizard, and follow the instructions on screen, if you don't do that, then yes you might have problems. GV's only down fall that we have seen, is that it doesn't like packet loss. As in, if one member of your clan has lots of packet loss, GV may drop him/her and/or drop someone else. But that can and does happen with any of these, just GV might be a little more sensitive to that problem. And cause it is also a pay product, I can only hope the program gets better, but then its a microsoft product, so who knows if they will make it better, and if so how long that will take . Also to note, its at 1.2 for a version release.
