I purchased an inexpensive shredder a while back, and really, it was a waste of money. It came with its own wastebasket that it was mounted over, and cost around $20-$25 (it's been like a year). The thing never performed well, and jammed frequently.

If you routinely shred paper, even if it's just sensitive snail mail like bank statements, you want something better; something that will handle more sheets, shred faster, and won't jam all the time.

This thing looks really cheap. I don't see the reasoning behind combining these two things. Peanut butter and chocolate, yeah. Great taste AND less filling? I'm there. Hybrid cars? Great idea! But a file cabinet and a shredder? WTF?

How about a stapler and a clipboard? How about a monitor and a mouse? Just because things exist in proximity to each other, doesn't mean they should be combined...

I don't mean to thread crap, but I'd recommend people steer clear of this thing.

I agree, I bought a Tech something brand shredder at OfficeMax once and took it back because it threw sparks into the waste basket where the shreddings are (that's safe). Fellowes seems to be the best so far, so if you want quality, get one of those, and there is currently a 20% off on those too!

Holy crap. No worries about emptying the container; just burn as you go!

Make sure your shredder has all metal gears. It will usually be advertised on the outside of the box since not all shredders (especially cheaper models) will have them. The first shredder I bought (I think Fellowes) had mostly metal gears with one plastic gear. When I put too many papers in at once, the plastic gear couldn't handle the load and the spokes of the plastic gear were rubbed off. I subsequently got a shredder that advertised all metal gears and have been happy with it ever since (almost a year)

edit: This was my original purchase. Stay away from it like the plague.

This is the one I currently have. All metal gears. I've jammed it a couple of times feeding it too many papers, but have had no problem reversing and clearing. Still works great.

Thanks, McPhreak. The wife and I need a new shredder at home to replace the cheap one, and all metal gears makes sense to me. I'll have to remember that.
