OCZ vs Enermax vs PCPC PSUs

Hello all:

I wanted to find out what the best PSU would be for an FX-55, 2x6800GT, 2xRaptor, 1x400GB Seagate, 4x512 Corsair XMS system.

I have read up on the OCZ, Enermax, and PC Power and Cooling models but am torn as to which to get.

I am looking at the 600 Watt Enermax as well as the 510W PCPC and the high end OCZs.

Anyone got some suggestions.

Thanks.

What are you doing with 2gb of ram? And are you really building that comp cuz that's gonna be like $3000+.

Anyway I'd have to say PCP&C

Yes all the parts have been purchased and yes it did cost too much but there comes a time when one says I can't keep playing on a 1.4ghz t-bird w/GeForce3 and 256 mb of ram. I am going insane.

Thank you for the response, so even though the PCPC has lower voltage that should be fine for what i am running?

I've posted a couple times today on this same topic, but I'm in a good mood.. 😉

they are all quality brands, it comes down to the features you want..

Enermax - plain jane, quite, fairly priced, good rails, great airflow - usually helps reduce overall case temps
PC&P - ugly, loud like a tornado, very tight rails, very expensive, single fan
OCZ - very unique look - mirrior finish/green fan leds, adjustable pots (rails), solid rails, decent airflow, expensive, attention to detail - fully sleeved bundles / unique connectors / status leds

for any SLI setup, i'd recommend the OCZ powerstream 520w:

OCZ ps review:

Don't forget Antec.

And, johnny, if you wanna spend 3000 dollars just to play games that's fine, but remember that a 1600 - 2000 dollar comp would do the same thing and probably just as well.

DrCool, PCP&P makes very nice PSUs, just very pricey.

you could build 2 high quality computers for that price.

Haha, now that you think about it he has enough hardware there to supply two comps.

Two Raptors, two 6800GTs, and an FX55 (850 bucks) is enough to buy 4 3200+ Winchesters.

I say get the PCP&C 510 SLI... a lot of $, but I've never had a PCP&C PSU fail me, and this one has all the right connectors for your setup. Yes its pricey, but whats a little more after all you've spent? (Got to keep telling myself that, yeah... that's the ticket...).

Got SLI?

Now to just pray the to the FedEx gods for a motherboard tomorrow...

PS, stop copying my plans for a PC. 😛

i would reccomend the pc&c 510 sli. its what im using for my sli system im putting together. those wattage numbers you should ignore. if we used industry standerd the pc&c is 600+ watts. it is loud however, but to me this is like buying a ferreri and complaining the ride is too stiff.

I don't think you could have made a more HORRIBLE analogy..

Ferreris are CUSTOM made, per the customers order, almost every aspect of the car can be fine turned to your any desire.. PC&P makes cookie cutter supplies, every single one IDENTICAL.. and yes, if you specified a smoother ride, they'd most certainly deliever it..

there is ZERO correlation between how loud a power supply is and its performance, it was a nice try though.

lol wtf

actually you are wrong. PC&C are loud becuase they are designed for optimal functionaly at 51 degrees (an enermax 550w at that temp is 244watts while the pc&c is rated at 510w0. the only way to achieve this is by use of large heatsinks and a high cfm fan. because to create the best psu possible given the size restriction of a power supply, its better to use a loud high rpm small fan which means high decibals rather than a lower decibal larger fan because of the space required for the larger fan is space wasted for not only heatsinks but also capictors. a fererri's ride is harsh becuase driving at such high speeds requires that the car have zero body roll, but the cost is a harsh feeling ride. the smoother and softer the a ride means that ths suspension is less stiff and therefore the car is subject to more body roll, no matter what you may think you can't custom order a ferreri that has body roll ever even if you wanted to (its would be considered a black mark on ferreri's name to produce a car that had body roll).
Also and for your information you can call PC&C and customize your PC&C PSU with one exception, they wont allow you to change to a lower cfm or different size fan as it would alter the performance.
