OCZ Vendetta 2

Ok, I have been meaning to pickup the TRUE Black by Thermalright, but in the meantime I have still been researching coolers.

I ran across the OCZ Vendetta 2 120mm and it is REALLY nice. But I see it comes with the *push pin* type connections to apply it to the board which I do not like due to the size and weight of these coolers.

But in this review here at Madshrimps they state you can use the spring loaded screws from a Xigmatek Rifle.

The OCZ Vendetta 2 has 3 heatpipes on the base so which one of theXigmatek retention brackets would I need ?

In a few reviews I seen, the OCZ Vendetta 2 outperforms the TRUE by a few degree. Which I think is great since the OCZ is around $25 cheaper.

the vendetta 2 is a design clone (sort of) of the S-1283. the vendetta2 only outperforms the TRUE because they didnt lap the TRUE. lap the TRUE and you will have one of the best coolers money cant buy on its own 😀

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835233019 Is intended for the 3 heatpipe version of the xiggy S1283 and is what you want.

The TRUE does not need to be lapped in order to outperform the vendetta 2,... it is just a matter of how the review was done.

The TRUE tends to outperform at higher airflows (WITHOUT LAPPING) than the vendetta 2 or xigmatek S1283,... however at lower airflows (EVEN WITH A LAPPED TRUE) the vendetta 2 and xigmatek 1283 will tend to do better,...

This is due to the fin spacing,... the TRUE has more tightly spaced fins, which don't promote cooling as well with low airflow (it is more restrictive to airflow), however at higher airflow, the TRUE shines,... where the xiggy and the vendetta tend to peak since at high airflows, the more fins will win,...

For the price/performance nothing beats the vendetta2 or xigmatek 1283,... which one to go with depends on the pricing, shipping and rebates at the time in my opinion.

The bracket is nice,... read the reviews on newegg about the super sticky stuff on the bracket,... it will help (basically you don't have to use it, but if you do, it will stick good so ensure proper placement prior to placing it there for less headaches)

PS - Don't lapp a xigmatek s1283 or vendetta 2!!!!

Yea, I was initially going to get the Xigmatek Rifle cooler, But I read a review on Hardwarecanucks that it wouldnt fit properly on the Gigabyte UD3P.

Having to go through the trouble of lapping a 70$ heatsink just seems wrong to me.

I will second that,.. and not getting a fan on a HS that really needs one for 2x the price. I will give the TRUE its credit,... it is good,.. but 2x the price and no fan? Then for the last bit you want to lap it for extra time and cost?

I am a bit cheap, but never considered the TRUE for a moment for my last two builds,... just not worth it

What are you idle/load temps on the OCZ cooler nyker96 ? With the bolt kit that is.

And what CPU/Motherboard are you running ?

Well, come to find out....The Vendetta 2, Tuniq Tower and a few others has clearance issues with my motherboard.

Only one that will fit perfect is the TRUE.

Not that I am complaining.

well, the thing about the TRUE is that not all of them actually come with a flat base. the entire line of coolers is known for having a very poorly finished base, since most enthusiasts who use their products lap them anyway. this video is a good example of just how bad the bases are on some of them.

as for it not coming with a fan, again, thermalright figures most people are going to replace the stock fan anyway, so they dont ship you one with their product.

as for lapping the HDT coolers, i lapped my Vendetta 2 without issues, you just have to be very careful not to lap it down to far or you will lap through the heat pipes. i think i had more issues lapping my Athlon 4000+ (bent pins FTL). never again will i lap a PGA CPU unless i have a better way of protecting the pins from damage. it took me 15 minutes with a knife to get them straight again
