Hey all,

I Have been using 1gb (2x512) OCZ 3200 Plat rev 2 for several months now. Just today it seems one of the sticks died. I caled OCZ to get it replaced, and the guy said I would need to send back both sticks....no big deal, untill I see on their website that they have changed from TCCD chips to TCC5 chips.

Now I bought this memory and paid a premium price for it because it used the TCCD chips, and was the fastest on the market. I also got a very good OC with it (possibly a reason why it crashed) I am gonna be bent if I get an inferior product in return!

I guess what I wanna know from you gurus is, Is this TCC5 stuff just as good as the TCCD stuff? I havent been able to find much info online regarding the difference.

Should I try and demand my memory be replaced with TCCD stuff?

Thanx

Link to OCZ news regarding usage of TCC5 vs TCCD

This pisses me off! I paid alot of money to have the best! now im gonna be stuck with "just about as good"

Think its time to start making some noise, and see if they can find a couple sticks of TCCD lying around!

Nebochadnezzar - I've actually heard (and this could be wrong b/c it is hear-say afterall) that TCC5 chips start out as "just about as good" but get better (especially for overclocking) over time as they "burn in."

TCCD and TCC5 are both from the same die. The only difference is that with TCCD, they're speed binned at Samsung and rated at DDR500 right off the bat. Because TCC5's aren't speed binned, they are cheaper, and once they're speed binned by us at OCZ, they performe exactly the same as TCCD. In fact, we didn't have PC4800 Platinum or PC5000 DFI special before we got TCC5 chips so you can see that the potential overclocks are the same.

Unfortunately, all we have now is TCCD. Don't worry about performance though. Your replacements will be tested before they leave our warehouse so you know they'll perform well when you receive them.

Oops I meant TCC5. I haven't seen any reviews for the TCC5 Plat Rev 2, but they perform exactly the same so all the benchmarks still apply. The specs are exactly the same.

the newer versions of tcc5 have been proven to be as good as or even better than tccd.

Can you point me to any of this proof? Would really ease my mind if you could. I have not been able to find any reviews...

I'm not sure if he worded that correctly or not, but here's my 2 cents regarding this. Back when we used TCCD's, it was rare that they would hit 300 FSB reliably. Once we started using TCC5's, they started hitting 300 FSB consistently so that's when we released PC4800 Platinum. After that release, we started to test to see how high these can really clock and noticed that they were hittinig 315 FSB as well so we decided to release PC5000 Platinum. I haven't seen many sticks of TCCD go over 300, but I've seen many TCC5 sticks hit 315.

Sounds good. Now I won't be afraid to buy another 1GB kit when having 2GB is more helpful in games (more than just BF2) and worth the performance hit of 2T. The confusion around TCC5 made me hesitant about sticking with this ram.

Keep in mind, you are purchasing PC 3200 ( assuming it's the rev.2 ) you PAID for DDR 400..

If you can't get 285mhz @ 3/4/4/8, WHO CARES!!!

it's PC 3200!!! If you want faster ram, PAY FOR IT.

Yep, it's true. Hey man, it's only RAM, not your health or something. OCZ John is a good guy, he wouldn't steer you wrong. Heck, Might switch over to that TCC5 stuff at some point (using Hynix-based DDR500 stix now). Maybe when I swallow hard and get an X2 at the end of the year....

John, How is the timing with the new TCC5 sticks? Say max overclock at 2.5/3/3/7?
