OCZ StealthXStream vs. PC P&C Silencer 500W

So it turns out my old power supply doesn't even have a 24-pin ATX connector. So it's out.

Now I'm looking for a new one. At NewEgg right now there's these two I like:

OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817341010

PC Power & Cooling Silencer PPCS500D 500W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817703016

The OCZ isn't 80PLUS certified and PC P&P has a better rep...but is that worth the $20?

Also, can anyone figure out what the difference is between the PPCS500D and the PPCS500? The PPCS500 is going for 15 dollars more, for some reason.

Here's my setup:

Core 2 Duo E7200
Gigabyte GA EP45-DS3L
Patriot 2x2 GB DDR2-800 5-5-5-12
ASUS EAH4850
Seagate 7200.11 500 GB
Seagate 7200.7 80 GB
BenQ DVD-RW drive

It would be nice to get your recommendations.

IIRC, the PPCS500D is a special model for Dell PCs. May not work well with normal ATX designs.

Anyway, I'd go with this PSU instead:
Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU - $70

It's made by Delta, got an excellent review over at Jonnyguru.com and isn't based on a suspect platform like the StealthXStream is.

This is definitely a great PSU, the only problem is the cables don't come sleeved. If you aren't really anal about how the inside of your case looks, I'd go with it.

I think a $37 BFG LS-550 is the better deal, but maybe that's just because I work for BFG? 😕

I only see a $5 after rebate difference between the OCZ and PCP&C, so I'd go with the PCP&C because they are pretty conservatively rated and the OCZ is an FSP Epsilon, meaning it doesn't do too well near its limits.

You're not counting the promo code that takes another $15 off, putting it at $30 AR - not a bad deal at all, especially in a recession. hah.

also based on what people are saying it seems the $50 PCP&C is made specifically for some Dell models. Not sure if that means it will pose problems. The regular one is $65.

Luckily I dont think I'll be pushing the limits on a 600W PSU.

Whoops, I missed the "D" at the end of the model number. Yeah, it might have a different motherboard pinout. Don't buy it.

It DOES have a different motherboard pin-out.

I just bought this PSU by accident and was researching whether or not to return it. I'm still going to contact PC Power and Cooling on monday, but from the following sources it looks like it should work:

http://www.pcpower.com/downloa...AL_REV_1_2_lr_3858.pdf (manual, pg5 has the connectors)

http://www.pcpower.com/downloads/S50D-2%20(2)_3858.JPG (more connector pinout views from PCP&C)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX (ATX 2.2 Pin Out is about halfway down the page)
http://www.formfactors.org/dev...SDG_2_2_public_br2.pdf (another source of the same ATX 2.2 pinout (pg 37)).

So provided PCP&C's documentation is accurate, it should work with modern mobos. It's certainly the best deal on a high quality 500W PSU, especially after rebates.
