I'm getting 2x1GB OCZ Platinum EL PC2-6400 for my new AM2-based computer... I just noticed that NewEgg posted an instant rebate that brings the "rev. 2" version of this RAM within $50 or so. The difference between the two sticks appears to be that revision 2 supports a better CAS latency.

The origional has a CAS latency of 4-5-4-15 while the rev. 2 has 4-4-4-15. How much real-world difference will this make? Is it worth the $50-$60?

You won't notice anything in real world performance. Maybe a couple nanoseconds here or there.

if you look around for benchmarks online, i think you'll find that the difference between cl 5 and cl 6 is pretty neglible, 4 to 5 is marginally more noticeable, but those numbers would probably require electronic monitoring to notice a difference... and even then it might be as simple as a lack of coordination in the testing that shows a difference in results.
my guess is that the rev 2 is newer and MIGHT be compatible with a wider array of hardware, but i have no experience with ocz ram. my hat goes in the corner of getting rev 1 off the shelves.

I kinda figured that would be the case... I'll check with my OCZ contact and see if there are any compatibility differences, but I doubt it.

Thanks for the confirmation, all.

The 4 and 5 which we are talking about isn't CAS Latency. It's RAS to CAS Trcd.
