OCZ Ram

Is anyone familiar with OCZ ram, and are they any good? How are they compared to Corsair? I am having an ABS built, and these are on their options. The one I am looking at is "Quantity 2 of OCZ DDR PC-3200 Performance Series Memory 512MB", or should I get "Quantity 2 of Corsair 256MB PC-3200 DDR400 C2 XMS | (Extreme Memory Speed series)".

I was also told that if I go with a p4 3.2, I will need 1 gb ram. Is this true? I am getting so confused the more I look around. Thanks in advance =)

I have 2x256mb OCZ Low latency DDR3200. They do 233mhz (466mhz DDR) @ 2.5 3 3 8 @ 2.5v and 250mhz (500mhz DDR) @ 3 4 4 8 @ 2.7v on a DC setup. No error on Mem Test, I think they are pretty good. Plus the copper sink look great with a thin Ultra Violet light between them 🙂.

the 3.2 does not require any amount of ram. 1gb is a suggestion for top performance on gaming machines. I only use 512mb, and notice very little difference, but suggestions will vary on that point.

the name OCZ scares me..
I'll stick to my Kingston Hyper-X which I know and love 😀

can't possibly see how that could be true.....

OCZ makes very good quality overclocking RAM, whether or not it "scares" you. I'm not sure if their cheaper stuff is quite as good as Kingston or Crucial, but the high-end stuff (Gold, Platinum series) is VERY good. OCZ 3700 Gold was *the* high-performance RAM to have for a while (before Mushkin Level 2 Black became widely available).

If you are into gaming, I would highly recommend 1 gig of ram. Games like BF1942, FarCry and other texture/graphics intensive software will use more than 512mb of physical ram. You will also notice the performance difference as well.

OCZ is great ram in my opinion, but so are Kingston and Corsair. All up to you on what you want to do. I'd recommend PC3200, 2 x 512mb sticks, and wouldn't worry about timings that much unless you plan to overvolt the ram and/or overclock.

Thanks for all the replys. I am getting this rig for gaming mostly, but not realy hardcore games. Still, it would be nice to have something that will handle anything out there. Thans for the info all!

Cody =)

OCZ is just as good as the 'other guys' on the block..... Corsair, Mushkin, GeIL...... Just a differant 'flavor' 😉 I rate them highly 😉
