no worries. The one is a 420 Watt and the other is a 450 watt. The "PowerStream 420" is the top of the line ATX PSU from OCZ. The "ModStream" comes in 450 and 520 Watt versions. The modstream has a single 120mm fan in the bottom and blue led light shoots out of it. It also has modularly connected cables which is a nice feature. If you notice the specs, while the PowerStream 420 is rated at lower wattage but, it has higher amperage on the +12V rail (30A) than the 450 ModStream which has only 26A. The PowerStream also has individually adjustable power rails with LED indicators. The ModStream does not have this (it just has blue LED "ground effects" lights). The ModStream has a modular cabling system (only use / plug in the cables you need) but the PowerStream does not. The PowerStream is basically a "more powerful" unit but the ModStream is no slouch either. Both are nice.

i just bought the 450 watt modstream, popped it in, and it blew up lol.. protects your motherboard from damage though. RMAing it, gonna try it again i guess.

You got unlucky man, it happens. Are you sure you had the voltage switch on the back set to the correct position? I'm sure OCZ will take care of you ;)

Thanks, I see. The modstream 450W's $80 price at that Monarch link looks very appealing, although I've heard some stuff about slightly lower than average 12V load voltages and overly stiff cables. It still should be far better than the generic 400W I have though (the 12V voltage on this thing actually seems to increase if more load is put on it, heh).

ouch, maybe you just got a dud. OCZ's warranty seems to be good, although the warranty period is shorter than that of the powerstream models.

To tell you the truth what little I used the modstream I loved it. But when I got my Thermaltake Lanfire the PSU fits perfect but where the ATX cable is so stiff due to the rubber sleeving there was little to no room to mount the optical drives. I could have forced it but it would have put some pressure on the power input on the drives and I didnt wanna risk messing them. I decided to sell it because of that. Don't know how much clearance there is on the Lanboy though.

Really hated to see it go as I was gonna put UV CCFL's in my case. I still recommend it though.

yeah, ocz was real quick to respond after I called them, on the phone he asked for my email, and i had an RMA form as soon as i got back on. Getting shipped out tuesday, well see how long it takes, I really need the extra wattage and the blue light from the psu, my case is boring right now :)

Oh, and yes i had the switch on 115W.. even if i had it on 220, it would have been fine. The only way that it would have screwed my whole system is if I lived in europe, and had it set on 115.. that wouldn't have turned out too good.

Right. Well, I don't know where you live (or do i???) so just thought I'd ask.

my 520watt powerstream died last monday. i contacted a OCZ rep via aol instant messenger (they have their contact information on their forums). got a RMA number and he crossed shipped me a new one via fedex overnight while i chose the slowest method via fedex. A+++ service from OCZ.

i blew up my first ocz 520w PSU by selecting 115V (I live in UK). After it went POP! everything else was ok, didn't damage anything. Told OCZ what id done and got a replacement in 4 days.

How bright are those lights anyway?

The main thing that's holding me from buying one of these is the stiff/short cable issue, which is something I have heard about repeatedly. Did any of you who own this have problems hooking everything up?

On a side note, someone mentioned this other PSU in another thread around here:
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...tion=17-104-123&depa=0

If this is actually a high quality unit then it's an amazing deal for the price, but I've never heard of this company before and cannot find any reviews of this unit.

i just got mine (athena/agpb) last night but my mb and cpu dont come until today/tommorrow so i cant give any feedback on the psu until this weekend or early next week. fasteddie has posted a link to a review and both his and the psu in the review were rock solid. all i can say so far is that the psu is heavy which is a positive.

The lights are not that bright, I just don't like constant light when I don't need it.

I may end up replacing the fan.

The cables are not as stiff as the X-connect cables, but not too too much better, either.

It's a nice supply otherwise though.

if you bend the cables a little bit, they soften somewhat. It isnt a big enough issue to not buy the power supply. I had mine connected in 3 minutes, until it blew up :p
