Hi there,

Anyone using OCZ PC2-6400 EL Platinum XTC Rev2 2GB kit with a C2D for overclocking? I'm having trouble digging up threads. I'm trying to choose between this and the slightly more expensive Corsair 2GB XMS2-6400 (TWINX2048-6400C4) which has slightly tighter timings.

Hoping to get an E6600 to 3.4GHz or so with a Tuniq Tower and this RAM.

Thanks

I just returned some of this RAM. No more OCZ for me, even they are slipping ... not surprising given the current memory market state. RAM was not as advertised - not capable of timings at listed voltages range plus CPU-Z and other progies revealed that the Pt.# did not match that listed on the modules' external markings nor that on the OCZ packaging.

Wow that is lame, I might give it a shot first then swap it for Corsair if it doesn't work. I've had good luck with Corsair DDR on this machine.

Thanks for the heads up.

Could you please give me more info on that?

For part numbers: OCZ2P800R22GK for example is the PC2-6400 Platinum Rev 2 2GB Dual Channel Kit. CPU-z will show each stick to be: OCZ2P800R21G which is the Single Stick part number for PC2-6400 Platinum Rev 2 1GB. Since there are 2 sticks in a Dual Channel kit, they are each marked with Single stick part number, then they are placed in the kit and the sticker on the sticks reflects the Dual Channel part number :)

Did you contact myself or Steve (here at Anandtech) or try out the OCZ support forum: http://www.bleedinedgesupport.com/ocz/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=45 to see if we could help you get them working?

What motherboard are you using?

I can clock these sticks to around 900 - 950 MHz with 5-4-4 or 5-5-4 timings on DFI, EVGA, and Abit C2D boards.

Hi,

Going to be using the Asus P5B-E board. I will go with the OCZ first, what I meant in my post was I would return it for Corsair if I had issues.

Question for ya, what's the difference between Platinum XTC and Platinum XTC rev2? I see the rev2 has slightly better timings at DDR2-800?

Thanks

Ouch ... that cost me $30 in restocking fees. Why on earth do it that way, it looked to me like they were Rev1's or somethin'.

Still, they wouldn't do the advertised timings unless I really maxxed the voltage. Unusual ...

I have those memory sticks and CPU-Z does indeed claim that they will only run at 5-5-5-15 at 400mhz, but I've had them running at 4-4-4-15 at 400mhz and 2.0v.

Really good RAM in my book.
