OCZ Modstream

I have a quesiton for anyone that owns an OCZ Modstream PSU--in your experience, have you found the cables to be too short and/or stiff? I've heard this can be an issue. Would it be better to go with a Noisetaker, Bluestorm or S-12 in the $75 range instead of the OCZ? So far it looks like the best value if I can get confirmation the cables don't suck.

I have the 450W Modstream ordered, and I've heard nothing but praise about the Modstream and Powerstream series as a whole. In fact, I have yet to hear a complaint about OCZ in general. They seem to know what they're doing.

I have the 450Watt ModStream, and today I just put together a new system with it:

Coolermaster WaveMaster
A64 3700+ Sandy
EPoX 9NPA Ultra
Leadtek 7800GTX
2x 512 MB OCZ EL DDR400 RAM
Seagate 160GB Ultra ATA HDD
HP DVD burner w/ LightScibe

Overall, it's a great power supply. However, the main ATX power cable is somewhat short and very stiff. I probably wont go modular again, but this PSU is of high quality. I would go with the S-12 500W.

The cables are stiff, but they can be bent outta the way, etc., & i love how even with 4 HDDs, one optical, & one video card, the case is still neat & tidy...never was that way with my previous rigs.

ive heard from those who use the modstream that its a good psu, nice features, but not a power house like its big brother the powerstream. the bluestorm preformence wise is better, but modstream is cosmetically better and is modular

the modstream 450 is awesome.

..just don't think about using it in a lian li pcv 1000/1100.

I have nothing bad at all to say about OCZ's PSU's i have a powerstream in my main rig, a modstream in my backup, and another pwerstream lying around that I use for testing ect...

You will not be dssipaoitned...and the cables are not that hard to bend....

OCZ is built by Topower, considering that OCZ seem pretty overpriced.

I would look at Seasonic or Forton Source / Sparkle; you?ll be getting a better PSU.

Modstream is great, I loved how clean my case looked after installing it. the only cable that is pretty strong is the ATX cable, the other cables are pretty flexible

i think the bluestorm is better.

modstreams are way overpriced for a non dual rail psu

yes, but dual 16a rails are usually better than one 26a rail, even when overclocking.
You gotta admit, teh modstreams amps are kinda on the low side

yes, but dual 16a rails are usually better than one 26a rail, even when overclocking.
You gotta admit, teh modstreams amps are kinda on the low side

I don't think they are... either way with that said my 450W Modstream runs wonderfully. nicest looking modular PSU too.. that matters to some people.

I don't think they are... either way with that said my 450W Modstream runs wonderfully. nicest looking modular PSU too.. that matters to some people.

I guess it boils down to personal prefencences

It's an awsome PSU, the cables are fine also, except for the main ATX cable, but that's not a huge problem, more of an inconvenience.

Also, I wouldn't buy a FSP Bluestorm. Not that it was the problem before for sure, but I had 3 video cards (it's not fun having $1200 worth of 6800GT's die on you) fry on me with that PSU (the 500w version) but when I got my modstream and a new mobo all my problems disappeared (and a new video card obviously)...

yea it is, and especially if you use the 20+4 pin. there was an issue with the SATA cable as well.
