welcome to the forums, OCZ/Geil/XtremeDDR = a gamble, Hyper-x is pretty good stuff, the PC3000 seems to be doing 200mhz fsb with tight latencies easily. Get corsair XMS if money is no question.

I have experience only with HyperX and Corsair and IMHO I would go with HyperX.

If money is no object, get a gig of this stuff...
I put this in my newest rig and it just smokes anything I've had previously. I ordered direct from Mushkin and I was very impressed with the way they package thier ram. You'd have to see it to know what I'm talking about. Good luck with your friends system.
