OCZ GameXStream 700W Power Supply $105 AR

Only problem with me is the high amount of ripple under high load that this series of FSP power supplies suffer, although it is unlikely that someone's system is putting this PSU under heavy load continually.

I just thought I would let you know that the $25 rebate for the 700W Gamextreme is back on until 10/15/06 with a price of $126.

I ordered it around 0900 on 10/06/06 and it shipped before the end of the day. I have had pretty good luck with Monarch. Having to sign for delivery is a pain as no one is ever home at my house and I have to drive down to Fed Ex, but except for that, nothing but positive experiences.

and it's not modular.... the mess is leaves something to be desired after coughing up that bengie

Sorry, what is "Modular"?

Modular What?

Some of you may not know what a modular power supply is. Honestly, before I was offered the review, I had never heard of them. So, I did a little research and found some pretty useful information.

Modular power supplies are made to reduce cable clutter by allowing you to plug in only the cables you need to your power supply. For instance, if you only have one hard drive and one optical drive, you only have to have one or two 4-pin powerconnectors. If you have an SATA hard drive, you can just plug in the SATA cable and one 4-pin connector.

The purpose of the modular power supply system is to reduce clutter, make it look neater, and increase airflow through the system. A pretty clever idea, if you ask me.

holy cr@p - awesome deals!

I already got the 600W model... these are top notch PSUs.

Except at full load where they go out of spec in terms of ripple (although since they're overkill for 90% of systems out there you shouldn't have to worry about that too much.
do you have any proof for that?

I would agree that a lot of people don't need the power. I liked the dedicated two PCI-E power connectors that my pre-SLI Powerstream doesn't have as I have ordered two cards for that. Also, the sleeved cables. With an after-rebate price of $105 w/shipping and the future-proofing for overclocking, extra harddrives, and the two videocards, it's a pretty good deal. Especially if I can get $70-$80 for my 520W Powerstream.

was an interesting read! Even though I think a situation such as test #6 is extremely rare (then again: a 15-minute run @ full load is not considered a true STRESS test...), fact is that the ripple exceeds allowed ATX specs.

Thanks for that link!

I think that it isn't a good excuse to buy 200W+ more then you need just to keep your ripple in spec. If you only need a 500W PSU, get a 500W PSU, not a 700W/600W GXS.
