OCZ DDR 512MB DDR433 PC-3500EL CAS2.0 DDR Model# OCZ433512EL NewEgg link

I was going to use this RAM with the ASUS P4P800 865PE and a 2.8C P4. I was hoping to be able to overclock to at least 3.0Ghz. My question is that is this RAM good enough to overclock the FSB to reach 3.0Ghz and run good timings?

On another note... what's the best heatsink to use for P4's? I've been using AMD for awhile so my P4 knowledge is a bit lacking. Thanks.

I just got the 1 gig OCZ 3500 EL dual channel kit (same chips as the singular 512 PC3500 EL). Haven't tried pushing it yet, but it's more stable than the TwinX1024-3200LL I had before, and the same price.

That is pretty impressive... I got a stick of the 3500 el a couple months ago and could not get 400mhz out(on 2 different mobo/cpu combos) of it unless I set the voltage to 2.9v or higher(Probably just a bad stick, but what kind of QA do they perform there to let trash like that be sold?). I replaced it with some TwinMOS pc3200 and have taken RAM instability out of the equation.

Yep, drama from pre 1.0 tbird days. Mostly about shipping and the pre OCed hardware they used to offer. I never had problems with them and I've ordered multiple times. Now that their hardware is sold by resellers there shouldn't be any complications.

ok, one thing i have yet to learn....

what does 2-2-3-5 T1 mean? i know that lower usually is better (which is why say the 3-3-8 on the new corsair XMS 3700 is not good for amd setups)...thanks!

noobie question..

that's just the ram timings... the lower the better... that's all you need to know :)

each number represents something.. the first is the cas # and the others... i can never remember the order so i don't bother..

Pastorjay: what timings were you running the OCZ at?

I just got a 1gig dual-channel kit on the weekend (2 x 512 PC3500 EL) and it will not even POST on my P4P800 (1007 bios) at 2.85v with 2-3-3-7 timings. This is horrible considering 2-3-3-7 at DDR 434 is the spec of the RAM! I can't put Vdimm any higher on my board so I am going to be taking this RAM back (fourth time I've done it). All I want to do is run 2-2-2-5 at DDR 400 (P4 2.6 @ 3.25) but it doesn't seem possible with one gig, best I've done is 2-3-2-6 with Corsair XMS 3500.

I've got several 512 sticks of the OCZ PC3200, and it runs 400Mhz @ CL2. Great stuff. I got mine from Hardcorecooling.com, they treated me right!

There was quite a bit of fake OCZ memory out there - which is really stupid, all you have to look for is the engraved OCZ on the heatspreader. Any plain paper labels that say OCZ ain't the real stuff! That's why they had a bad rep, the fake ram sucked major league.

I have had 256 MB of OCZ EL DDR 433 for about three months, and it left me a little disappointed. At 162 FSB with memory running at DDR 433, my computer would restart with SPD timings of 2-6-3-3. I relaxed them to 2.5-7-3-3, and things were fine. At DDR 420, they will run 2-7-2-2. This is all at 2.8 vdimm. I was a little disappointed, but since 2.92 is as fast as this old 2.4B will go, it is good enough for my needs, but I will be trying something else when I get my Canterwood setup. From what I have been hearing though, these chips are doing better than they were when I bought them just a few months ago, and I heard a couple people say they got DDR 500 out of the Golden Dragon chips.

Golden Dragon is GEiL, not OCZ.

thnks, if i had an unlocked AMD, i could've tried to push the memory further...thats my max right now because my CPU won't go any higher
reviews have had the PC3700 go as high as DDR517 2.5-2-3-7

Did they give you a specific day? And any idea what places will have it in stock? I'm looking to put the system together by this weekend and the RAM is the only thing I'm waiting on.

why platinum? i don't see a difference in color grades...my golds were just as reliable as my normal ELs
i think there out in non-kit versions...check newegg.com

I got a P4C800 deluxe running 2 sticks of 512 Kingston HyperX PC3200. I got my 2.4C to run at 3.0ghz stable and my ram timings are 2-2-2-5-4 at 2.75 Vdimm. Perhaps you should give Kingston a try. From previous experiences, Kingston does not offer the best OC abilities but for moderate OC Kingston is reliable and will do the job.

$134 per stick of 512mb, thats a little expensive. Winbond Bh-5 and CH-5 stuff runs for under $100.
