OCZ Agility 3 60Gb @ $69.99 - Good Deal?

I've got a new system build already assembled and I'm looking to use a SSD as a boot drive (plus internet browser) if I can get one cheap (<$100). Newegg has an OCZ Agility 3 60Gb on sale for $69.99. Is this a good deal (especially considering OCZ's history of reliability problems)? Or should I wait till New Year's in hope of something better?

It's not a terrible deal, if you can work with only having 60GB. It gets filled up really fast (I have the 60GB Vertex2).

Though I wouldn't mind a 120Gb SSD, I think I could probably live with 60Gb. Windows 7 (20Gb) + Internet Browser (.2Gb) + maybe Office (3Gb) + Skyrim (6Gb) = ~30Gb.

Edit: For $15 more, I could get a OCZ Vertex 3 60Gb or I could just wait for a decent sale on a Crucial M4 64Gb.

At nearly 1 GB/$ that's pretty good. I'd say go for it. edit: the Vertex 3 is a pretty nice deal too. If you're looking for M4 to go under $100 you may have to wait quite a while

M4 is a high end ssd, you might be waiting a while to see it drop that low. The agility is fine if you've never had an ssd before.

I can get a Crucial M4 for $105/$110 so it's just on the outside of my price range at the moment. If there is a decent sale in the next week, it would be less than $100.

It's a decent deal, depending on your needs. You only need the stomach for all things Sandforce. There's a reason they are so inexpensive ATM.

For instance, the theoretically fastest top-of-the-line SSD, the Kingston HyperX with the latest Sandforce, recently sold for $1/Gb (after rebate/coupon) for several hours at Newegg. The 120Gb is currently selling for $165AR, which is still a pretty decent price.

Just stick around Slickdeals and wait to pounce. My advice, take the money you save and buy yourself some good backup software. ;-0

EDIT.. Nevermind, Newegg just raised the price of the HyperX by $20AR.

Sorry, I meant paying $70 for a 60gb crucial, not $100. $105-110 isn't too bad, though 60 gb is pretty small. I'm currently using 57gb on my x25m g2 for my OS, and I'm already juggling applications to keep a decent amount of free space. I'd shoot for at least 80gb for an OS only drive these days unless you want to spend lots of time juggling/moving/reinstalling/etc.

1) I have this drive, and the sandforce issues have not been a problem for me personally.
2) The performance on the drive is good relative to rust, and comparable to older SSDs, but nowhere near an M4, which brings me to the next point
3) 60GB was just too small for me. YMMV of course, but after putting windows with updates, office, matlab and visual studio on it, it was full... I gave in and sprang for a 128GB M4 a few months later. The M4 is noticeably faster, and the extra space is a big help. Currently I'm using the Agility for games, but once I stick skyrim, wow, mw3, and a few others on there.... Already full. Thinking about wiping it and trying the Z68 caching with it.

SRT is awesome. I managed to set up cache + OS on my 80gb g2, it's literally the best improvement I've ever given my computer.

Looks like I should wait for a good deal on a Crucial M4 or Samsung 830 (or at very least a Vertez 3 or 120Gb OCZ). Thanks for all the advice.

I thought you couldn't cache and boot off the same SSD. My motherboard can do SRT so that might be an option to pursue in the future (once HDD prices become reasonable again).

I got the 60GB Agility on a Black Friday special for near the same price and it has not given me any problems so far. It came with the latest firmware so that may be why I have not seen the reported Sandforce BSOD's. I have another 1 TB hard drive along with it so I don't install big games or even download any files to it. 60 GB is large enough for just Windows, but if you plan on installing other games or significant software and don't have a 2nd drive then you will need more capacity.
