Time will tell.

I am not terribly interesting in anything G80 yet, as i have no desire to spend $550+ on a video card when i know they'll drop once R600 comes out, or at least when the 8800 refresh arrives.

lol they could have picked a better looking car for the box. It looks like a car from "Cars" the movie...too cartoonish and doesn't scare the crap outta you into buying it like it should.

OCZ will ( most likely ) be speed-binning them [ pretested overclock cards ] { and sell them at stock clocks } as nVIDIA is pretty tight in restricting the manufacturers to stock clocks.

"i have no desire to spend $550+ on a video card when i know they'll drop once R600 comes out.."

The price has already dropped to more in line with what it should be. SO it is doing well in that regard already :)

But the price will not drop because of the r600 release. The r600 will be expensive.

the refresh is a long way away off ...unless you mean the mid-range 8800 variants due out in the 1st quarter.

the unknown factor is the effect of the ongoing price-fixing investigation.

$525 CND for GTS
$715 CND for GTX
Those are sales w/ free shipping, lower than everywhere else.

Sorry, but if you consider a $715 card that'll be worth a mere couple hundred in a year a good price...

Yeah, let's just say some of us have to save up for hardware, don't have money to throw around.

$715 CND card still worth a couple hundred in a year is a good price.
Much better than 1800 which halved price in less than 2 month as 1900 came out.

Why was the X1800XT going half price 2 months after it's debut bad for us?

If you're meaning resale value then I agree but for initial purchases I'd rather see a high performing card drop 50% in 2 months than drop 50% in 12 months.

actually i was thinking US prices..as us canadians are still getting gouged.

595 for a gtx... is very good indeed!

the 7900gtx was 540$ cdn soon after launch...and that is 1/2 the speed of the 8800 gtx.

So indeed..i say it is already great value! But the 8800 gts variant..is the one for me.

it has gone from an eye popping 630$ cdn to "just" 519$ @ my local store. :)

hopefully it will be 450$ on boxing day :) :)
