I was going to bite on this, until I realized that, unless my order is processed and shipped Tuesday, there will be no rebate.

With today being Sunday, and tomorrow being Labor Day Monday...there seems to be too good a chance that this order won't even be processed on time. What a retarded time period to set a Rebate.

I think you got it wrong, the shopping cart basically processes your order.
It won't get shipped until Tuesday, but if you order it today, your invoice will show today's date.

As far as I know, modern SSD drives are as reliable as your average desktop drive.

looks like a nice deal, although 32gb is too small. I really would at least prefer a good 80gigs to put my games and apps on, keep my media off the drive and make it my OS drive + apps and games. You could raid 2 or 3 of these together which would be sweet but I'd prefer the less drives route.. nice deal though especially for a lappy!

Read up about this when i got my EEE Pc, average life is about 5-6 years

While there's a lot of discussion over performance and battery "saving", I believe the noise factor and stability plays a role in purchasing SSDs as well. If you move your laptop a lot, no-moving parts is good. Also, my hard drive is loud and I just want it to be quite sometimes.

2 second lock-ups every single time something is written to the disc by the OS.

Good point, and even that only has a 2 year warranty.

not when it comes to seek time. that is what the 10-15K drives are all about - seek times. honestly, i would rather have a drive that only had a 50MB/s str w/ a extremely low seek time compared to a drive that had a str of 100MB/s w/ a seek time 10x as slow any day of the week.

think about how many programs load 1 large file and how many need to grab all kinds of little files - the faster the seek time the more responsive the machine will be.

SSDs strike me as first-gen devices still...I don't really think they're ready for primetime use just yet. So far, the two main issues seem to be write speed and lack of ability to multi-task...a lot of the Newegg reviews give terrible reviews because of those things. Plus, you can get a 500gb 2.5" laptop drive for $200, so unless you're really anxious for your Windows to load in 10 seconds instead of 30 seconds, you can get a lot more capacity and pretty close overall speeds for the same price, if not cheaper, than SSDs.
