Trying to decide on a better PSU for my future hardware plans (R700 and possibly quadcore). Currently the ProXStream is on sale for $89.99 shipped and the TX 750W is $99.99. 1000W is overkill but I'm strictly looking at price and build quality right now. The only thing I worry about with the OCZ is noise. Which PSU would you guys choose? If you have a something else in mind for that price range feel free to chime in.

I would choose the Corsair. Gabriel Torres over at Hardware Secrets found that the ProXstream unit was too cramped in a standard form factor, for a 1000W design and it heated up too much

I read that review and two or three others. The review at PCPer had better temps but still complained of the noise. Most articles point towards it being a high quality unit just loud.

I'd still worry about temps as the interior, as HOOfan said, is so tightly packed. I'm beginning to wonder why a power supply that used to retail for close to $300 is now suddenly down to $90 shipped.....heat and noise problems, perhaps? It is odd to see such a drastic markdown on something like this unless they're beginning to dump it or discontinue it from their lineup of power supplies.

That's what I'd assume. I think they want to push the Elitexstream into stores now and are offering the big rebate on the Proxstream to accomplish that end.

I ended up going with the Proxstream just because its such a good deal right now. About half the reviews I read didn't find the noise a problem but if it ends up being too loud I'll just sell it and grab an Elitexstream or Corsair PSU.
