Integrated graphics on-die intel gpu, 20mb L3 cache, 8-way L2, 8 physical cores on die, this thing will probably come out around next fall. JC had a 6 core Gulftown (came to be known as i7-980x) back in 2008.

Where do you see that it has an IGP ?

As far as I know the LGA 2011 processors were supposed to be without an IGP.

no... that 6 core is the same exact 6 core intel loaned me.

JC had a 2xqpi. I should know because i had 2 and he was helping me debug the crap out of them, because they were "tempermental" on my 5520.

The A0's which people "labeled" 980X was infact not a 980X, but a Q3QP.
This version was quickly replaced by a B0, and then followed with the full retail B1, which is now offically a 980X.

JC is known for poping stuff out way earily, and sometimes i wonder how he does it without intel frowning on him.

I bet ya if i did it, id get intel security emailing me 100 page NDA documents with highlights on all the sections i failed to keep.

That being said, i cant say much about 2011.

Well that's up to you, but I don't want to pay three times as much for a processor that won't be any faster for most of the applications I use.

But I do like the market is becomming more segmented, with something designed for everyone.

It's not the processor you get for gaming either.

You get this for one of two reasons:

#1. You want the fastest thing around.

or

#2. You do a lot of photo/video editing.

What I'm mainly wondering about is what the lower end of LGA 2011 will look like.

For people who want the additional PCI-E lanes and overclockability it offers compared to LGA 1155, but don't need a full 8 cores.

If they could sell a 6-core version with no IGP for less than $500, then I might be interested. As would a lot of other gamers I'm sure.

Yeah I know.

A 4-core LGA 2011 might be even better, but as far as I know none of those are planned.

Would it be fair to say that working processor in the wild = less than one year to release ?

Seems to me Intel could easily have these ready for Q2 2011, which would be ahead of schedule. Of course they might choose not to do so, since they have full control of the high end market anyway.

Until the consoles have more cores, games wont use them.

I don't understand the reasoning behind 2 logical cores per actual core. What is the benefit from that? Seems like all it would do is trick older programs into only using a single core, because it sees it as 2.

Compare the socket 1156 Pentium Dual Core to an I3, or compare the I5 7X0 to an I7 8X0, and you'll see hyper threading helps with performance. I'm not going to pretend to know exactly how it works, but it works.

no.. more like retension clamps were removed along with enterprise backplate so he could get an aftermarket sink to clamp on with a aftermarket backplate.
