Bought a 1.8A and Epox 4G4A combo from Frys a couple weeks ago. Was having problems at 145 FSB. My old ps was not providing enuff juice. I got that Antec 430 and got the cpu up to 2.7ghz. It'll run windows and the 1st 2 tests on 3Dmark. Than the test locks up. The stock cooler wasn't enough by the 60c+ temps Im getting. I took a volc 7+ from my old system and temps were worse and it was loud. I modded the cooler to take an 80 mm fan while still being able to use the fan controller from the TT volc 7+. Temps still hovered around 45c but the sound went way down. I picked up a Sunon fan and hooked it up to the controller. Temps dropped to 37c on high and 44c on low. Medium was totally silent while case is open and not audible at high with the case closed. The Sunon fan is rated at 32dBA with 36CFM @2900RPM. I dont think it goes full speed on the high setting. Is there an 80 mm fan that pushes more air at around the same decibel?

I heard that Epox boards underclock. When I adjust the voltage to 1.5 volts (according to the monitor) temps shoot up really fast. Can I trust the bios or monitoring software that came with the board. Don't want to go past 1.65volts if I can help it. I'm pretty sure with some testing I can keep this stable at 150+FSB. My chip is the SL??Q? Malay btw. My other system (in my sig) has a 1.6a that I might swap into this mobo. I read the 1.6a needs more juice to reach the same speeds as the 1.8a.

What is the best combo for performance and silence in p4 coolers. I saw the new Zalman and that looks very small and not good for ocing. Looking for 2.7+ stable with the 1.8A or 2.6+ stable with the 1.6A.

TIA.

Oh yeah,
forgot to ask about the memory dividers and the agp/pci lock. Is there any way to get different dividers for the memory. I have that stick of corsair and would like to use its potential. How do I set the agp pci divider. Could that be causing my initial testing to fail? I didn't have these options on my old board and never learned to make those adjustments.

TIA

I'm at a hurdle as well that's similar to yours. I can do 145 FSB fine with the stock Intel heatsink/fan but when I hit 150 FSB I need 1.7v which runs desktop/simple programs just fine. But when its 3DMark2001se and 3D games time she heats up alot (hasn't crashed but the temps freak me out so I lower the FSB down). I think I reached the end of the stock cooling for my system so I'm getting the Swiftech MCX 4000 w/YS fan. It's gonna cost me a few bucks but it's suppose to be the top air cooler around. Also I'm assuming your just running 1:1 memory for the 1.8a? The TT 7+ isn't really the best HS/fan for the higher end overclocking. I think it's a cooling issue anyways, maybe some of the other guys around here have a different idea. And don't forget there's always the limitation of the CPU; I really wanted 2.7g but at a lower vcore like 1.60v not 1.7v but thats the luck of the draw I guess.
