hello everybody, you might remember my previous story where I was worrying that the xp wouldn't work on my abit kt7-raid @ 100fsb

well I got it, and it works (-:
only thing is that it's stuck at 1050 now..
originally I had it up to 1166 and it was working fine
then I checked wcpuid and it said my memory was at 148MHz
this is because the memory is running @ fsb (111) + pci clock (37)
I have 256mb pc133 cl-2, and it was working perfect @ 148 with cl-2

so I decided to try running it down at the same speed as fsb to be able to boost the fsb
so I started with 117 with ram at 117. and it actually booted, but then crashed

so I said instead, I'll run at 177 + pci (155) but with cl-3 instead
that didn't even boot up

I had completely tweaked my bios for optimal performance, so I decided to try the default settings @ either 117 cl2 or 155 cl3 (my goal is 116-117)!!
I loaded the default settings, and rebooted, and ever since then , I can't boot into windows
says that a file is corrupt, and to run the repair cd

so I run the repair cd and it doesn't load the setup
only at 100fsb (1050mhz) now I can get the setup to load )-:

I had never reset the bios since installing the xp... I'm thinking maybe it was using some settings for my old cpu or something?? I'm pretty much confused at this point...
any idea of what could be happening wouuld be appreciated..
aswell as what I could do to reach 116 / 117 fsb using my pc133 cl-2 memory (-:
because then once I unlock, I would be able to reach pertty nice speeds with this cpu...

i cant think right now but the only thing that comes to mind it bios, try clearing it by shorting the jumper and start all over

thanks man... it was the bios.. I found out the exact setting which was f**king up my system..
it's my fault, it had nothing to do with the default settings.
it's a setting under chipset whatever where I set something to Hi instead of Lo, I forget what it's called..

anyway, it works fine now at 111x10.5 (1166)
but at this speed my agp is at 74, and memory 147 (always cl-2)..
seemed fine at first, but then when I ran my winamp plugin (3d) it crashed my machine..

so maybe the AGP is overclocked too high? is there anything I can do to run at 111 and not crash when running 3d?

so then, even though this has nothing to do with agp, I decided to lower my memory to 111 instead of 147, and then the plugin ran...

so overnight, I ran that plugin (milkdrop desktop mode) + a web page that takes up 100% cpu, and then this morning my computer had crashed )-:

anyway, I hope to reach at least 110 because then at 12x it'll be 1320
I'd like 111 to give it the nice round number of 1332 which would be a 1500+
with this I'd be very happy

of course if anyone knows or has a suggestion on how I can get higher then 111 or higher then 12x multiplier, please let me know (-:

ok guys, I finally unlocked my XP!!!!!!!!
so now I got it up to 1.33ghz (106 x 12.5) (-:
I get 4193 in 3dmark2001 with 1.33ghz + my gf2 gts 32ddr o/c 250/383 (almost gf2 ti (-: )
I'm pretty satisfied considering I was getting below 3000 before when I had my duron o/c 950mhz
can anyone compare their 3dmark2001 scores?

I also installed new RAID drivers for my highpoint (2.3) and I was able to put my stripe size to 128k, before 64k was max..
so now I would like to test my raid speed, how could I do this?
and what about sandra, is this a good benchmark? should I get? where can I get it? heheh
thanks

Oh boy...here we go.

First off, your mobo, an Abit KT7R has a 100FSB, not the 133FSB that your AthlonXP is designed to run at.

Secondly, the KT133 chipset is one of the worst overclocking chips in history. I should know; I have an Abit KT7R. I'm amazed you got it to boot at 111FSB! I have Micron memory (Crucial) and I could never get it to boot past 108, no matter what voltage or settings I used.

Thirdly, (related to #2) it's not your memory or AGP card holding you back, it's your mobo. Or more specifically, the chipset.

Do yourself a favor, buy a KT266A mobo and some DDR. You'll be much happier w/the performance.

OR, if money is an issue, at least get a KT133A mobo, ala the Abit KT7A. That board and chipset has support for a 133 FSB, which is what you should be running w/that CPU. Getting the KT7A instead of a KT266A will allow you to keep your current SDR memory.

Good luck, you nut! ;)

Abit said KT7-RAID not supported AthlonXP on his website but I am wonder why your CPU works no problem on your motherboard. Can you tell me the stability of your system?

thanx MichaelD, but I like my mobo, if I were to upgrade to any motherboard, even kt7a, it would have to be raid, and it would cost money.. plus I bought this mobo when it just just came out.. I was one of the first to own one in montreal area!! and I got the duron 700 because I knew it would reach at least 950mhz, and it worked once I unlocked the bridges..

kt133 chipset!! yes I know it sucks for overclocking, but @ 106fsb x 12.5 (1.33ghz / 1500+) I'm happy (-:

Plane, my comp is 100% stable with my XP on kt133 (-:

so for me this whole upgrade was a project, I wanted to see if the athlon xp would work on the abit kt7-raid (kt133) because as you mentioned, plane, on the abit site it specifically said it wouldn't work!!
so I took a 250$ cdn risk..
but I knew it would work (-:
I had to unlock those f**king xp bridges tho, and it was a pain in the assssss!!!!!

anyway, how bout those scores? 4200 3dmark2001, any good?
I'm happy!! plus my voltage is down to 1.5, and my cpu temp is ~ 27, system ~ 23!!! (-:
I think I'm going to buy a lower RPM fan for my cpu, and make it a 'silent' PC, cause it's f'in loud now!!!!!!

here's a link to a nice jpg (-:

thx for your announce

I got a KT7-RAID and two KT7A(ver 1.1) and I feel angry that Abit didn't support them. I think the AthlonXP works on my board now and even SSE supported according from your screenshot provided.

yep, with your KT7A you should also be able to reach the rated speed of 133fsb, me I'm stuck at 106 )-:
just make sure you have the latest bios, 64...

toms hardware has a very good explanation:
http://www4.tomshardware.com/howto/01q4/011112/index.html

and he also has a very nicely made video which is good if you're a visual person like me (-:
http://www4.tomshardware.com/images/thg_vid2_ocing_xp.zip

I didn't do it exactly like he did tho. I used a rear window defogger repair kit which I got at canadian tire..
and I used nail polish remover to clean the bridges after putting the glue and before the paint, this is a step tom's hardware didn't do..

4200 is good for your system. I had a GF2GTS (200/366 default), OC'ed to 225/410 and it scored 3974 on my KT7-Raid. That was with a 1100 t-bird @100FSB. My new KR7A-Raid/XP1700 scores 4505 with my new GF2Ti450 (250/400 default- not OC'ed). I know I can tweak the memory on my video card up to at least 450, but will hold off for now. This is my last upgrade for a while!! MY GTS is available if anyone is interested.

GTS- FS/FT.

The link is a subscriber link, so search for GTS if you are not a subscriber.
