OCing software vs bios???!

I was running 146 FSB off of cpucool for a few days and it was fine. I ran some benchmarks and stuff as well as casual use for at least 4 days or so and I had no troubles whatsoever. Then I decided to do it through BIOS since, if i remember correctly, it was more stable. I run it at 146FSB through bios and then a lot of my programs started to lock up... I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else. Should I continue to OC through software or just run 142FSB through BIOS? Also, anyone know of a free software that can raise FSB on ECS K7S5A? Thanks~

hmm, sounds like coincidence that you got a better oc with software than through hardware...I've never even heard of overclocking a cpu using software (other than being able to adjust mulitpliers on a laptop). I've also never heard of software that can boost your fsb...if you wanna boost your fsb you're gonna need a new motherboard, cpu, and ram most likely :(

Look up Speedfan and CPUcool or CPUFSB. Those can do it. I just lowered my BIOS back down to 133 and I'm using Speedfan to bring it up to 146mhz. Working fine now T_T. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY!!!

I think I was either the first, or one of the first software overclockers on AT. Wasn't I the one that told you about Speedfan, Ku? Anyway, I never went back. Who wants to spend 30 minutes (that's how long it takes me, because of all of the stuff I have hooked up to my computer, and where my computer is) resetting your bios, when you can do it with software and if it doesn't work, you just push the reset button?:D

I have MSI KT3 Ultra2 and Athlon XP 1600+, and for the world it will not overclock to anything past 143fSB through the BIOS no matter what voltage settings I change for DDR, Vcore, AGP, nothing....but with MSI software overclocking utility it runs at 152FSB on stock voltage!! for a palomino thats weird.....so you aren't the only one.
