Hey all,

I'm currently looking at a budget system for a friend. He plans to oc. I've searched up on this and there does not appear to be a clear consensus so I'll ask again for opinions.

Trying to decide between these two processors. To sumaris for those that don't know. Both don't have CnQ enabled. The 2500+ is 7x multi but with 256k L2 cache (stock 1.4ghz) whereas the 2600+ is 8x but with 128k L2 cache (stock 1.6ghz). I've seen various reviews which suggest the additional cache makes only a small difference but this is not with 64bit apps and there has been suggestions it may make a bigger difference there.

But on the flipside, the 7x multi means he's far more likely to run into a HTT imposed limit. I've seen some get 2.5ghz on air with the 2600+ and although he probably won't be so lucky, even 2.2ghz is going to be 314.

Price is also a significant factor. 2600+ is about 20% more in Malaysia where the processor will be purchased.

BTW, I haven't mentioned the 2800+. I think it's a bit expensive for his budget. I also haven't mentioned the mobo mainly because I haven't decided yet.

Cheers all

I know most mobos can hit 300HTT no problem, but they have a hard time getting past 300. Based on that, I would have to reccomend the 8x multiplier. If your friend can get a DFI mobo, then the 2500 would be best because at 330HTT it can still get to 2.3 GHZ.
