I have a locked pal 1800+. I'm just going to be increasing the fsb so do I ever have to increase any voltages? and if yes do I increase the ram and proc voltages at the same time?

first up fsb until it wont post
then you will probalby have to clear the bios...read up on how to do that exactly in the manual, it should tell you how

but yeah you will ahve to at some point
or you can do what i do, up it to begin with lol
i set it to 1.85 right off the bat and upped the freq from there on my uncles 1800+ pally

the ram voltage needs increasing after you have run out of vcore (meaning you cant incrase it any more without any mods) and your frequency wont go any higher

generally it helps as it allows the ram to be run at higher speeds

on some mobos you dont have a choice of a divider, but you do have a choice to run the ram asynchronously from the cpu freq

for example on the p4pe by asus
it doesnt outright say a divider, but there is an option to select the ram speed

i guess its just easier for ppl that way

in either case, the divider is being used....just sometimes it doesnt show up as the divider persae

Thanxz for the info =)
Can't wait to try my hand at OCin when i build my computer in a month or so

the usual interval is by .1v....i wouldnt go over 2.7-2.8 though...maybe 2.9 if needed
you will know that you cant increase vcore anymore becuase the option wont be there....it will top out at a specific voltage
some boards have an overvolt type of thing, like for example on asus a7v8x u can select from 2 different modes...first mode: max voltage around 1.85, and second mode max voltage around 2v or so....that acessible via a jumper on the board

i have some oter stuff to put out first (time limite stuf) after that i will be doing pt 2 :)

Ah cool thanks ChampionAtTufshop can I pm you if I have more questions when I start o/c'in once my SLK-800 comes in? And would you happen to have any experience with the Epox 8RDA+ or FIC AU-11?

Cool Thanks. Do I up the FSB but 1htz every time or by 5 or it doesn't really matter? And what should I use to benchmark and test my comp?

well personally i go up by jumps of like 10
it it dont post, i go to fsb where i jumped up by 10 from, and up by 5
if it still dont post, same thing, but then go 1 by 1

for benchmarking the most widely used is sisoft sandra 2003
for "real world" you could use like 3dmark, bench with stock, and when you overclock, bench at max
games as well (their fps)

but for testing (if its stable) use prime95+loops of 3dmark2001 for about .....well if you can do 12hrs non stop without any errors, id say its pretty damn stable

Feel free to drop me a line, I've overclocked 3 different systems so far using the 8RDA+.

Cool Thanks for offering heh I guess I'll start asking now. After I install all the hardware and boot it up what should I do? Flash the motherboard? Format my HD and install Windows??

In my case I had to Flash the BIOS considering my memory was giving me problems with the factory shipped BIOS. Normally, install Windows, get everything going, make an image of the drive, then proceed with a BIOS flash if you're not pleased with the current one.

Oh thanks and normal o/c would but to increase the multiplier, but since I'm going to be increasing the FSB lets say I get it to 166, I would get 1909htz, that is not a normal speed for a athlon chip.... What would my motherboard show as my procoessor Does it even matter? Like my friend's 1700+ is showing up as 2400+ when he increased the multipliers and fsb.

Nah it doesn't matter what it shows up as. 1.9ghz should be obtainable with a 1700+ Tbred B.

If its Tbred B, you should be able to get it there no problem.

DOH!!!! I mean locked ARG!!!! I keep getting it mixed up it's palomino locked I can't change the mulipliers I can only change the FSB.

Hmmmm my friend wants me to chip in to buy some Arctic Silver 3 for the 4 or 5 comps we are making... Should I do it? I am getting the SLK-800 with the YS tech variable speed fan, how much would the as3 help my temps?

Here's a dumb question but the ys tech fan blows onto the slk-800 right? And what is this lapping thing?

generally yes, fans do blow onto the heatsinks

only heatsink afaik htat is actualy designed to have it sucking/blowing away from heatsink is alpha

lapping is just a fancy word for sanding the base of the heatsink down to a really nice finish
the point is to get it as smooth as possible
