OC'ing by JUST using the multiplyer..a bad thing?

If I were to just change my multiplyer setting from 10.5 (stock) to 11.5 (or higher if it will post) without making ANY other changes (V core/ FSB) would I experience any long term problems? I briefly tried this and went to 11.0 and it posted no problem (with only a .66mhz increase though) So i am thinking of just boosting the multiplyer as high as it will run stably and leaving it.

thoughts on this approach?

No problems overclocking this way ,just watch your cpu temps as you would with any overclocking.

The only negative factor about upping the mulitplier only is that you don't increase memory bandwidth & therefore you don't get as much as a performance increase,eg I have an AThXP 1500 @ 1800 (10x153 MHz) ,this will perform better than an XP1800 with 11.5x133 MHz.
On the other hand increasing the FSB does mean you are overclocking more components & therefore you have more variables as to whether the overclocking is successful or not

Thanks. Yeah I was worried about OC'ing the FSB due to the stress it puts on the PCI devices.

I am going to stick with the multiplyer only for now.

My cooling is excellent (my CPU runs at about 37-40 degrees full load right now) so no worries there.

No worries ,actually the most likely thing to give you trouble 1st is your RAM ,depending upon its quality ,eg Generic PC133 CL3 RAM will often go haywire over 140MHz(ish).A PIII rig I have which has Crucial PC133 CL2 runs right up to 148MHz at CL2!
On my Athlon rig all my PCI devices seem to cope quite nicely at 38.25MHz ,its just a case of trial & error to see whether your PCI devices are stable at overclocked FSB speeds

I'm thinking with an AYHJA core you should be able to hit around 1.7 with good cooling. Possibly a bit higher. Check out the overclocks at www.overclockers.com they have a whole bunch of people who enter their speeds and stepping and stuff. That was one of the later and best steppings I believe.

With my Iwill KK266 my 384mb of Crucial Cas2 runs Cas2 @150mhz fsb w/ 4 way interleave on.
