OC'ing an E4300

my e4300 is up to 2.66Ghz ... stock voltage ... running cool

but i think i only have one core enabled

[10176 in 3DMark05 ... which is pathetic ... my P4 got 9300]
--of course i did NOT do a clean install of Win ... or it'd be Sunday

one core limitation of Win2K?
--if so, i'll have to dig up XP ...
--or is it me missing something ?

finally is there a good 4300 OC'ing guide

especially looking for the memory tweaks and other little optimizations that improve gaming performance

I believe that when you switch from single to dual core, you do have to reinstall windows. At least that's the way I remember it. Win2k and XP pro should support 2 cores.. Dunno if XP home does.

Second core will come up automatically. Reinstall is not needed. I routinely switch number of cores on computer to test things out.


There is no volt mod with conductive ink, unless you change the vreg. The cpu will still boot 1333x9, but it will be using the default vid of the cpu. If you find a way to edit the vid let me know.

the vreg is for the northbridge right? limitations on this board is from the northbridge. do you have a link or guide for the extra vreg if that increases northbridge voltage?

the 2nd core *doesn't* come up automatically ... since i did not do a fresh install of Win ... i *need* to install it on top of itself to even know it is there :

EDIT: on the ASRock DualVSTA we do not need more cpu volts, however we need more voltage for the northbridge. If every board is stuck ~300mhz shouldnt more northbridge voltage do the trick rather than more cpu volts? Most C2D's should do 3ghz on stock vcore if i am not mistaken.

[i reinstalled my ACPI driver ... 2nd core now in Task Mgr processes]

i am *damn* sleepy ... and i was making mistakes when i went to bed early this morning

it is a challenge to take a box of parts - including an open-box MB - and make it function - no manual ... no CD ... but it was only $25 🙂

How did you idle at 20 with stock cooling? I idle at 38 and that is at 2.4

I have my e4300 now at 3.0ghz and have the same temps as 2.7. I am confident that speed fan works because i confirmed the temps with easy tune which was made for my motherboard. I have my 5 120 mm fans and my 200 mm fan on high and they work quite well.

try the intel thermal analysis tool or TAT. i used to use speedfan and now i use TAT because TAT reads the temp of the core from the inside the chip while speedfan does it based off of the reading in the socket.
