OC Tweaks with New Memory

For a long time, I've been running a stable OC of my E6300 (1.8ghz) at 2.7 ghz with good temps. Last night, I swapped out four 512MB sticks of Corsair DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel RAM (5-5-5-12) with two 2GB sticks of the same stuff (same brand) with timings of 5-5-5-18. Needless to say, I had to convert to default settings in order to get my machine to boot.

From there, I lowered the DDR frequecy to 533mhz and began stepping up CPU frequecy as I had done before. It posted at 2.5ghz but failed at 2.7ghz. To achieve the 2.7 OC, I use the default multiplier of 7 and raise the CPU frequency to 386. That brings my DDR 800 RAM to about 772mhz. Apparently, there's another setting that I'm gonna need to update with the new memory. The only other thing I did was change the memory voltage from 1.9v to 1.8v per the label on the RAM. What am I missing here?

Do keep in mind that I'm only OC'ing he CPU. Thanks!

how many volts are you putting thru the cpu and what are your motherboard voltage options?

Tell us the exact components you're using, Eddie. It makes a big difference when overclocking, especially the motherboard, because different boards call some settings different things. My guess is that you just need to raise your Row Refresh Cycle Time (this is one of the settings that gets called more than one thing) higher, to at least 54, but possibly as high as ~60.

ASUS P5B (Vanilla)
C2D E3600 1.8ghz
4GB (2 x 2GB) Corsair DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel RAM (5-5-5-18)
eVGA 7900 GTO 512MB
Rosewill 500W PSU

That's probably more than you're wanting.

CPU voltage: auto or from 1.2250 V to 1.7000 V in 0.0125 V increments.
Memory voltage: auto or 1.8 V to 2.1 V in 0.1 V increments.
FSB termination voltage: auto, 1.2 V or 1.3 V.

Well, those are the important ones. And assuming your "Vanilla" board has the setting available, what you need to change is called Row Refresh Cycle Time to at least 54 (55-60 is preferred, until you see how high your RAM will clock). Also, make sure to disable these: Transaction Booster, CPU Spread Spectrum, PCIE Spread Spectrum, Max CPUID Limit, C1E Support, and Speedstep. The C1E and Speedstep you can try re-enabling later, after you get it stable. Also, it would most likely be better to raise your vDIMM back up to 1.9v, and you may very well need to raise your Northbridge voltage by one notch, though probably not. Good luck.
