Hi all,

I just set up my new rig (please refer to the bottom of this post for the specs) and am getting some random blue screens in Windows 7.

Initially I had my processor unlocked to a quad-core and clocked at 3.8 ghz. In order to check the stability I ran Prime 95 for 24 hours on priority 10 - this passed without any issues. I have also run Memtest86+ for 24 hours, no issues.

Shortly after I completed my testing I started getting random blue screens. I've inserted the output below:

I was puzzled since Prime 95 went for 24 hours without any issues, but went ahead and dropped my multiplier to 16 (3.2 ghz clock). Still getting random blue screens while using my PC. Also, there is no consistent theme here (i.e. it's happened while gaming, while browsing the web, once I left my PC at the login screen for a few minutes and it happened, etc.).

In terms of BIOS settings and additional details for PC and memory, please refer to this section below:

• CPU -1.35 V, multiplier = 19, FSB = 200 hz, temp under load < 50 C, temp while idle ~30 C, MB temps ~30 C
• Memory - 1.65 V, 1600 mhz, 9-9-9-27

PC Specs:

• Asus M4A87TD/USB3
• AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE
• GTX 460 1 GB
• Kingston Hyper-X 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) DDR3 1600
• Crucial C300 64 GB SSD
• WD 320 GB 6 GB/S HDD

• Corsair GS600 PSU

Anyone have any thoughts as to what is driving this and how to fix it?

Make sure your CPU-NB and HT-link speeds are both under 2000mhz. Also make sure that your memory is within spec - use a divider if you have to.

1.35v is not much for 3.8ghz. I would bump that up to 1.4v.

I was interested in setting the voltage to 1.40. However, when I would enter 1.40 in the BIOS...my voltage read out from Asus AI Suite would be ~1.40 V while idle. If I ran something intense such as Prime 95 it would then display in AI Suite ~ 1.42-1.43 V. Given that AMD lists the highest voltage for this processor at 1.40 V, I was concerned about this.

Why is my voltage bumping up under load? If I set the voltage back to 1.40 in the BIOS, will this run down the life of my CPU?

3.8ghz is pretty high just so that you know. On my Phenom II, it's very hard to keep it stable at that speed and it takes more voltage than I would like. I've settled on 3.75ghz at 1.47v, or else 3.6ghz at 1.4v.
