OC temps on 6300

Got my 6300 running with a Zalman 9500 @ 415x7 = 2.9 ghz. All the throttling stuff, etc is Disabled.

Core Temp shows: 43 Celcius idle, 51 Celcius load
(weird thing is EZ Tune shows 31 Celcius idle......whats with the discrepancy?!)


1) Are the temps acceptable (idle seems a bit high)? I know the CPU is rated to handle much higher, but I want stable and a chip that will last awhile

2) Any idea about the temp diff in the programs? I presume it's not that much of an issue.

That's completely normal, in both instances. It's because one is reading the temperature inside the processor, the other is reading the temp underneath the processor.
 
Awesome, thanks for the info and clarification. I actually just realized I have another question:

-Am running OCZ Platinum 6400 (800) at:
-5-5-5-15 @ 415 mhz (1:1) @ 1.9v.

It's rated at 4-5-4-15 @ 800 @1.8v.


Since I'm running 415x7 (2.9 ghz), would it be better if I dropped to 400x7 (2.8 ghz) to get the memory down to 400 mhz and try to get it at CL4 instead of CL5?

In this case, is going with CL5 and a somewhat higher clock worth the drop from CL4?? I've run Sandra @ CL5 and might give it a go @ CL4 (lower clock) to see the difference.

Any suggestions/info?
 
will it not run at cl-4 it's only 30mhz, with the small voltage increase i would think that it would be able to hold those timings.

(I'm still trying to figure out the whole mem timing stuff so enlighten me if i'm wrong)
 
It should work, as for the temp let stability be your key, if the computer is instable the temperature is too high. That OCZ platinum should do 4-4-4-4 @ 2.2 @ DDR-920 as well.
 
Good point.....I haven't done alot of tweaking yet on my OC.....still in the earlier stages and was hoping to cut down on the time I have to spend....yes, I'm being lazy 😉

100 mhz difference overall isn't that large, considering the total OC. I'm sure I can get the timings stable at CL4, or else drop the FSB a bit to make sure they play nice together. Ya, my original post was about the temps, that's exactly what I was wondering......to establish a "cutoff point" to get that balance between temps/stability and performance. I certainly am NOT out to break any records, so I have no issues dropping the FSB down a bit to achieve stability, good temps, and component longevity. I'd rather have that than push it too hard.....this thing spanks my old X2 3800 rig so I certainly can't complain here about a 50% OC, that's insanely good in my opinion! 🙂

My X2 3800 and Corsair Plat DDR400 ran at its rated timings @ 218 mhz no problem. So I *should* be good to go with this new setup on the new rig. I'll give it a whirl, thanks!
