Running Linx, my 2500K reached on the hottest core (#2) at stock speed with turbo off and I believe the VID reached 1.25v. I ran it for about 2 hours. Anyway, my room is quite a bit below room temp (probably about 55F), so I'm guessing that the hottest core would be 5C hotter if the room were room temp. I'm using a Logisys cooler with PWM disabled (the fan is 92mm if I'm not mistaken and at about 2.4k rpm) and AC MX-2

I don't really have any need to OC as it's fast enough. However, just for fun, I'm considering OCing, but I don't really know what to expect. I was going to aim for 4.4GHz and no more, no less since that's exactly one-third.

What temps should I expect? Was the condition I mentioned good, average, or below average given the conditions?

Finally, should 1.31 volts be sufficient for 4.4GHz? I'm not going to go more than 1.31 volts, although I was worried it would might need 1.35v for that. If that's the case, then I'm not going to bother.

If I do indeed OC the 2500k, then it will be the first time I've ever overclocked, as I've never been a speed demon and I've never been one to risk stability and/or reduced life expectancy of a computer chip.

On average you could probably expect 4.5GHz at least provided that you have sufficient cooling and your motherboard has good power delivery. Your temps are probably good now considering that your room is a chilly 55F.

I'm unsure of the Logisys that you're using as you've provided so little information about it but I do recommend a minimum of a CM Hyper212 Evo before attempting to overclock. Nobody could tell you what voltage to expect for a given processor as each one is slightly different and would either require more or less voltage for a given clockspeed. It can follow a standard graph but it will definitely not match yours exactly and will be within a certain +/- range.

It's actually 100 mm hydro bearing fan. No copper heatpipes. So I guess it moves about as much air as the Hyper 212 Evo, since that runs at less RPM but the Evo has a larger fan.

That looks no different than an AMD stock cooler. Heat pipes are almost necessary for an air cooler these days. Not so much as to moving air but heat transferring from the base to the fins for dissipation. The idea of a larger 120mm fan is that it could spin slower but still push enough air as a faster and smaller diameter fan, therefore a good 120mm fan is quiet compared to a 100mm fan.

I would consider changing to an CM Hyper 212 Evo anyways but it may depend if your overclock to 4.5GHz does go near or beyond the temp threshold it should be fine since the ambient temps at your place seems chilly enough. If you're not keen on forking some pocket change for another heatsink, a moderate, sub 4GHz overclock will do just fine.

You need 1.31v for 4..3 or 4.5Ghz

Im guesing its your RAM,, run a memtest

Those BSODs with irq_less or not iequal are 90 percent the RAM,, soo how many stick do you have,,,, grab memtest and run it see if you get errors... gl

I have been fiddling with my 2500K and LinX, testing different OC's for temperature and stability (with a 212+.)

Currently, I'm at 3.8GHz and it runs in the high 60C's. I did, using the Gigabyte SmartBoost utility, bump it up to 4.10GHz and it topped out at 80C on one core... too much for me; hence, my return to 3.8GHz. Just for fun, I bumped it up to 4.3GHz... it went over 80C in less than 30 seconds.

I plan on dismounting the 212+ and reseating it, and adding another fan... we will see where the temps go.

I did not fool with the voltage, I downloaded the other GB utility, bumped the voltage up .05v and the system immedately crashed, so back to stock.

I have never had a failure testing LinX, I ran it for 1 hour at max memory @ 3.80GHz and nary an issue, it's just those temperatures.
