For a long time I have had a E6400 @2.8
A month ago or so I put in a much better PS and was able to push my e6400 to 3ghz on stock cooling (with my old ps everything would go all funky colors). I thought everything was working fine.
I started playing l4d2 which is the most graphically intensive game I own right now on my 8800gts 320 and things were bad. Sound would start to get all crackly my ping would double and I would get major lag with things porting around the screen.
I tried everything new video drivers, turn settings down.. all kinds of stuff nothing seemed to do much (turning settings down made it mildly better).
Then I thought hmmm.. I checked my temps and my proc was running at 63c core temp on load which didn't seem terrible, but I thought what the heck. I dropped my proc back to 2.8 (350fsb) and all my issues went away.
what am I doing wrong here? do I need to put more voltage into the proc to get 3.0 ( I was using 1.300vcore which seemed to work. Am I just unable to do this OC?
This in on a Asus p5q se windows 7 6 gigs of ddr2 800 running in sync.
