OC Problem is it PSU?

Asked it before here but didnt get solution. so asking again

I have i7 870 OC at 3.65 ghz and working fine. but if I raise it more what happens is that my screen goes complete white like a blue screen but no text nothing just pure white and then I have to unplug and restart the system, I have seen people getting blue screens with error msg. I dont get any blue screen only white...

Do you guys have any Idea exactly what is causing the problem.

Currently temps are 67c at full load, I want to upgrade with Noctua NH D-14 if I get some solution for this problem

Yeah, white screen is pretty weird, don't hear that often, not nearly as much as BSOD or even black screen. Maybe it has to do with using a workstation graphics card. Anyways, is it going white screen during startup, idle, benchmarking, or what?

You gotta give us more information like what voltages you have set, what memory divider, etc too.

Don't unplug your computer while it is running. Hold the power button in for 5 seconds to force shutdown.

It runs without any problem in idle mode but when i run prime95 or cinebench it gets white within a miniute.

my voltages -

i7 870 @ 3.65 ghz at +0.144 volts

memory speed 9-9-9-24 1T (volt - auto)

all other settings are at default.

all power saving features turned off including turbo boost and EIST.

the volt above looks low. people who overcloked i7 have set minimum 1.3 voltage but if I increase volt with my current 3.65 speed it gets unstable. this is the only volt I found stable with my cpu (12 hours prime 95 stable)


I tried with power button for 5 sec but it dosnt switch off, I have to remove power cord or switch off psu and then turn on again.

Hmmm, maybe try the settings in this guide, they seem reasonable though I don't have an 1156 system. You do not have a Foxconn socket MB as per the warning by the way.

Especially look at the PLL and VTT/QPI/DRAM (different names for the same thing) voltages and make sure you're okay there. Also, since G.Skill ram seems to have a lower median voltage than other manufacturers, don't set your DRAM bus voltage higher than what the memory is rated for unless you're running the memory over frequency, which should be done separately from getting the CPU speed higher.

What has your motherboard been using as the auto voltage for QPI/VTT with whatever bclk (165?) you're running? You can use the auto voltages for reference, because they usually set higher than necessary for stability.

Maybe you should just wait until you get the Noctua cooler, because your temps will probably get a lot higher with the necessary voltage to get higher speed than you are at.

Because your ps is a single 12v line I would rule out your ps.
Recheck that your Quadro is at pci-e x16 @16 @2.0 with nomal temps with gpuz.
I read that MSI H55M-E33 is smaller then the standard 244x244 and a few mb holes wont align with the case standoffs which could cause mb flex with a large hsf. so check it
You may have a temp problem with tim or HSF mounting.
TEMP at idle and full load is ?
You need to get you vcore from CPU-Z and post next time.

How can I monitor QPI/VTT voltage?

my mobo has more than 8 holes so I dont think it will cause it to flex.

I am using CM thermalfusion TIM,

my temps - idle 31c, full load (prime95 - one hour) 64c with Hyper212+

ambient temps - 24c

vcore from cpuz - 1.152 volts at full load and at idle 1.200 volts
(I dont know why it drops in full load)

all this with 3.65ghz speed.

I know the Voltage drop is because of vdroop, but I dont find any option in bios to disable vdroop or what it is called LLC? cant I OC with vdroop enabled?

I hope my chipset is fine for this OC I know most of the people who OC use P55 chipset for Lynfields, the diffrence is that it dosnt have graphics support for i3 and i5's but i dont think there is major thing missing from H55 with OC point of view.


I really like to push my i7 baby further.....
