u can get the firmware from firmware.fr but im not sure about the instructions for flashing with the different firmware. try and see what google can come up with, i do remember seeing some liteon users pages with instructions and findings on flashing to a different model.

hope this helps

I have a 40x liteon as well and would like CAV especially. What firmware do you use to upgrade it to 48x and CAV?
I hear that they have released the 48x24x48x liteon in Asia and was wondering if it's possible to upgrade our drives in the same way to 24x cdrw?

Too bad we can not overclock our IDE HDs to like 10,000 or 15,000 rpm hehe. I guess that would be to big of a overclock on any hard drive.

Wow. I got the 32x to save a few bucks, but 48x for free sounds great. Does anyone have any info? I'm wading through google right now.

I doubt that it will have all the functions anyway. It's core logic chip is different from the newer model, and the speed settings and features are chip-dependant. Thus, it's not possible to truly OC the CDRW. It may report higher speeds support, in reality, nothing will change (if it still works, of course ;)).

Ok, I dug this much up. Apparently the lite-on 32125w can be upgraded to the 48x. However, the 32123s cannot. This is concerning the 32x lite on burners.

Nuts, just checked and I have the 32123s. Oh well, 32x is still plenty for me.

Does anyone think it's possible to upgrade a Yamaha 2100E 16X burner in a similar way? I've checked google a couple of times for something about this and I've come up short. But yea, if someone knows that would be pretty sweet, although I have pretty big doubts about it.

Nope. I owned that drive, and was not able to successfully give it the firmaware for the 20x. It had a safety of some sort that prevented using the firware from a different drive.

This practice has been around for some time, I remember there was a little buzz when the HP 8x's hit 10x. It's not true overclocking, but fun none the less.

:)
