I've built a few PC's over the years, however, I've never actually overclocked any of them because I never really knew how. I've read the guides posted on this forum and others, and I have a general idea of how things should work such as increasing FSB relative to the static multiplier on my CPU, etc. -- though, I'm not exactly sure how to go about adjusting my RAM relative to that, and I've yet to find an in depth solution to attempting to OC my GPU.
I'm currently building a new PC [just ordered the parts], and I was hoping I could get some advice on how to proceed with OC'ing it.
Rig:
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 P45
CPU: Intel Wolfdale E8400 3.0 GHz [w/ Scythe Mini Ninja]
RAM: CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
GPU: ASUS ENGTX 260 [192pc]
HD: 2x WD Caviar 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache [Raid 0]
PSU: CORSAIR 620HX
I'm hoping to OC the CPU to 4.0 GHz.
Seeing if I get this right, the CPU has a 9x static multiplier, so I should set the FSB to 444[?] and set the voltage to auto, returning to gradually lower it until it remains stable.
If that's correct, I'm still unsure as to how to proceed with RAM settings. With DDR2 1066, the max FSB would be 533?
Also, is GPU overclocking all done through software, not BIOS?
I apologize for the barrage of questions, just trying not to break anything.
