OCíng an 850 chipset with asus board..

Its an asus P4T-E 850 chipset with a GB of rambus ram, just wondered what this is OC'able too...its fora friend of mine, if youneed more info let me know...I'mthinking 2.6 isn't out of the questoin but I don't know much aboutt he 850s.

With an 850 chipset, the chipset itself and the ram both hold you back. I haven't heard of anyone getting any overclocks with them that were even worth doing. Why not buy an $80 865-chipset board? The Abit IS7 and the IC7 (IC7 has the 875 chipset, which is even better) are both around $100...

You would need to buy new RAM in addition to the new board if you were to buy an i865 solution.

The P4T-E should overclock reasonably well. A lot of the later RDRAM should be able to reach PC1066 speeds, so you should try slowly increasing the FSB from 100MHz to 133MHz. Don't expect much more than that out of it.

You may also need to put some heatsinks on the ICS Clock generators for the RDRAM on the motherboard. The ICS chip is not hard to miss on the board if you look carefully.
