OC Gains?

BF2, CSS, FEAR

I'm going from stock 3200+, Stock 6600GT AGP, to the following.

3200+ @ 2.4= 3800+ speeds in Everest, and my 6600GT OCed to 550 core and 1000 memory.

Will the gains out weigh the risks involved with overclocking?

So far stock cooling is working being I max out at 41c at load.

Please help this noob overclocker.

after OCing:

run prime95 for 24 hours. if it lasts, you've got a stable OC. also, run GPU intensive programs and make sure your GPU doesn't heat up over 70-75

I'm running prime right now and so far 2 hours in all tests have passed. I'll keep you up to date. My GPU routinely hits 75c after mucho bf2, but never artifacts, is that ok if nothing crashes?

the cooler your GPU runs, the longer it will last. I'd invest in a Zalman GPU cooler. 75C seems high for that card, that's what my X800XT runs at OCed to 550/1200.

EDIT: oops, my X800XT runs at 65 max, not 75. 75 is too high IMHO.

Bah!

My x1800xt hits 80C+ often! N issues at all.. Its not uncommon to see GPU's in the high 80's!

You should see some imprrovement in frames. Don't expect something like going from unplayable to playable. Maybe something like going from an average of 35 FPS to something like 42.

ALso, you should def have gotten a better oc on the 6600GT. Probably 550/1100.

It's AGP stock is 900, so 1000 is 10%..
