Ok I guess ive forgotten some basics....
I bought 4gb of corsair dominators pc2-8500 memory. I run a C2D E6400 @ 2.9ghz (370 x 8). I have the strap set to 1066(thats normal right?).
My previous memory ive been running at 533 or 1:1, so it was running at 370mhz. I guess I hadnt thought this out yet, but I had figured I could run this memory at a faster speed right? I mean....I wanted to get the max speed of 1066 out of it...
I tried to set it in bios at 450 and 540(I think?).
I am supposed to be able to run this at like 4:5 or 2:3 right? It is like slightly over 1066...but I thought it would probably be able to handle it. : /
Anyways, The system hangs or freezes restarting pretty much no matter what. I was trying 2.0v,2.1 volts even at 450mhz and it just wont do it. Even 450mhz at 2.1volts with all spd stuff in bios(which is obviously way under the spec speed of 1066) and it still wont do it.
At 1:1 or 370mhz, theres no problem at all. Is there even really a big performance different running it at faster speeds or should I just keep it at 370mhz with tighter timings at 1.8volts...... : /
