What will the system be for? How good of an Ocer are you? Do you need peripherals (like a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.)?
 
3000+ Venice core seems to be the overclocker sweet spot right now. Of course you could probably make some magic with an X2 4600+.
 
Why in the world are you suggesting valueram for an OC build?

They are slow and have very little headroom for OCing, not to mention the lack of heat spreaders.

Buy OCZ or Corsair.

My pick would be the OCZ PC-4800 2x512MB DDR600. IF you get the 3200+ it will give you a theoretical limit of 3000Mhz (300x10) at 1:1. That is of course if you get a processor that can even achieve such a speed. BTW that would be a 50% OC from 2.0Ghz.

Because you can use dividers with value RAM. If you have a budget, that money is better served else where. Cheaper RAM may cause slighly lower performance (not noticeable in most situations), but a more expensive GPU/CPU will more than make up for it...

If you want cheap OCing RAM, get a DFI nf4 board and some OCZ value VX. That stuff should OC well but it needs like 3.0-3.4 volts to perform. It only cost around $110 IIRC. I've seen reports of people hitting 250MHZ at 2-2-2 timings...

First of all Value RAM will not limit your overclock one bit. Just use a divider. There will be no real-world performance loss. It may be noticable in benchmarks, but that is it. The price/performance ratio of more expensive "OC RAM" makes it not worth it and you are much better off buying the next level video card or something.

For example if he gets more expensive RAM he may have to get something lower then a X800XL. A X800Xl will give him much better improvement in games then some expensive RAM.

Also I find it really funny you said something about heatspreaders. Heatspreaders are for looks. Nothing more. They do not help keep your RAM cool one bit. Also Corsair is known to have problems with the DFI board.

Now let me get this straight... using dividers causes no performance loss? This is news to me.

Can I see some comparisons please. I have always known/thought that dividers hinder performance, at least on the s478 P4's.

Almost no loss on Athlon 64. Look at Zebo's stickied Memory Matrix thread in the Overclocking forum.

I wouldn't exactly say no performance loss. It may be noticable in benchmarks, but that is all. When it comes to real-world performance there will be no or very little difference.

That is why it is generally recommended to get Value RAM and then just get a more expensive video card with the money you save. It would be much more benefitial.

Still need some help with the RAM. I don?t want it to lament my OC but I don?t want to over spend on it ether.
I don?t know much about the deferent fans for the heatsink. Also should a replace the fans in the case?

For the heatsink fan get something like this. As for memory just get the cheapest from a good brand. it will not hurt your OC or overall performance one bit and you will save money. I have heard problems with Corsair VS though with the DFi so i wouldn't get that. Some people have not had problems, but many have.

As for PSU the Antec SP2 500w is a great PSU for a great price.
 
I?m ordering this soon but I still need some help deciding on RAM and I would like to use a Vantec Stealth 92mm for the Processor but I don?t know if I would get a better OC with a Panaflo???
I am also leaning towards a Seasonic S12-600W Power Supply but I would like to know what you recommend.
Also what is the deference between the Zalman VF700-ALCu and the VF700-Cu???

ocz powerstream has adujustable rail... perfect for OC'in.....
i have the same case.. i luv it... w/ memory u will want to go w/ OCZ since dfi is picky about rams..
 
Why the hell are people reccomending all this POS value ram with there is OCZ Value VX and Twinmos UTT that will do 2-2-2-5 @ 2.8V

With the DFI board, you can hit 250fsb @ 3.4V easy.

I have 4 pairs and all hit 250 fsb 2-2-2-5.
