It will be some time maybe 3 mo's before I can build a NEW PC but I was realy looking at a AMD FX 55, but I see so many geting good overclocks with a AMD 64 3000 or 3200 I am wondering if it would be worth it to get a FX 55, I was planing to Overclock the FX 55 with a Water cooling system thinking it would be a great CPU to OVER clock scince it is not locked.
Is there anyone that has or seen how far a FX 55 can be overclocked. I see somthing like 2.55 -2.6 on the 3000 and 3200 AMD 64 CPUS but nothing on the FX 55
 
you're unlikely to get much more actual clockspeed out of the fx-55, but you will be better able to choose clockspeed/memory speed etc without making too many compromises, and you will have the larger cache as well. You won't get the same 400-600mhz bump that you see on the slower chips, because they are all essentially the *same* chip, with more or less the same upper limit.

if you're asking 'is it worth it, onjectively' then the answer is almost certainly no, unless you have a real, desperate need for an extra little bit of performance. It will certainly be a fast chip, but it's a rather expensive proposition to buy one and then OC it, since that does increase the chance of failure.
 
ok thanks Yea they are very expensive an with that I figured they would be abel to overclock real good. Was hoping that by using a water cooling system I could reduce the heat enough that it would not cause much risk in reducing the life. This will probly be a PC that will last me for 4 years or more so that is why I was looking for a CPU that had a long life to it.

Well the FX-55 won't OC as well as others because they are reaching the limits of the 130nm core. So the 3500+ is on 90nm and should OC very well
