The director of Canada's Automobile Protection Association says Ford should make things right for its customer.

"It's not acceptable ... for the largest-sold vehicle in the country to be an orphan or stranded, because a certain component can't be sourced anymore," says George Iny.

The Automobile Protection Association's George Iny says automakers should provide replacement parts for 15 years. (CBC News)

Automakers earn a lot of money selling parts, so they usually continue making them for years after a vehicle is discontinued or replaced with a newer model.

"To have run out after seven years, means all the spares they originally made were put into F-150s," says Iny.

That's pretty sad - I would not have expected something that new to be stuck in "junkyard-parts-only" territory.

Toyota still lists the HVAC controls for my MR2, though it is over $600 and I'm not sure they still actually have them.

easy fix.

yank out the electric motor and turn it by hand.

i've had the dash out of one of those it's not that bad.

the steering column comes with it.

How does that fix it from blowing constant hot air?

because the blend door actuator driver in the hvac module is broken.

so pull out the blend door motor and turn the blend door by hand.

either that or no one did proper diagnosis and called the hvac module bad.

which is rarely the case.

if it doesn't re calibrate it is most likely the motor but you have to watch the counts on your scan tool.

I thought they had to stock parts for 10 years? Is it different in Canada? Or a different part?

That my friend is an urban myth. I have seen parts in the marine business go "no longer available" is as soon as 3 years. This is from a major engine company.

This is what junk yards are for. 7 years is pretty bad though. I'm fairly certain I could get anything for my 9 gmc.
