Obsidian is Sorry that Fallout: New Vegas Was So Buggy

Well then why don't they fix NV then? It sounds like they're already done with that game even though they still have lots of DLC coming up. If you know the game is buggy, then fix it. Will not buy Dungeon Siege 3. Fool me once (or twice, or I've lost count)... I won't fall for it again.

The real answer was to never buy it in the first place. It's their job to release software that works. Not the consumers.

Yeah NWN2 needed a lot of patches, but at least it got them, unlike some other games. And the autopatcher program worked well, unlike some other games.

Obsidian are still LIGHT YEARS ahead of JoWood. JoWood games (gothic series for example) are simply unplayable.

never again, JoWood. never again.

I will always give Obsidian (Along with the now defunct Black Isle & Troika) a pass just for making games most other developers would have simply lowered to the common denominator. Obsidian are more willing to embrace alternative genres than being the RPG purists BI or Troika were, but they still carry the torch.

Black Isle and Fallout 2 were notoriously bad offenders. FO2 shipped in its Alpha state and the first patch actually finished the game. In FO2's defense, by the second patch the game was more or less stable top to bottom.

Bethesda acquired ID software and hopefully they'll be using the new ID tech 5 engine for the next fallout game.

FO NV is not a buggy mess, it has been a very playable and very good game since last November. Most of the patching since then has been to tweak game balance, such as making energy weapons more effective.

I'm going to keep buying (but not necessarily pre-ordering 🙂 ) Obsidian games because I want them to keep making games like KOTOR 2, Neverwinter 2 + Mask of the Betrayer, and Fallout New Vegas.

Story-heavy RPGs are so rare that playing flawed ones is still much better (to me) than having none at all, and even Bioware has moved away from them in Dragon Age 2 and (from EA comments) Mass Effect 3.

I played New Vegas for quite a while and I NEVER noticed any serious issues with it. Nothing that even came remotely close to preventing me from playing and having an enjoyable experience.

People whine too much. They don't know how to manage their computers and make sure everything is running smoothly. Then they blame it on games. When a computer is not running well, it only makes a buggy game even worse.

While I agree with this sentiment in general in the case of NV it was pretty clear that it was a buggy mess. Reviewers on all platforms (PC, 360, and PS3) had major issues with the game. Some people seem to have lucked out and not encountered any problems, but in general it was quite a problematic game.

Though Obsdian are only one offender in a sea of buggy games lately. Seems like more and more games are coming out with the release now fix later philosophy. This is why I am starting to wait at least 3 months before picking up a game, unless it's a title I'm particularly phyched about.

Must of not played it when it launched then. They patched it up pretty quickly. Well worth the 10 bucks I paid for it.

Played it right when it launched. Well maybe like 3-4 days later. Def not more though.

I agree with this, although I seem to be one of the lucky ones and had very few problems with Fallout 3 or New Vegas on PC.

I did not, however, buy New Vegas because it uses Steam.

It's ok bethesda. Atleast I was able to finish New Vegas on the PC. Unlike FO3...

Also your first batch of DLC was really great! Unlike FO3...

And I'm excited for your future DLC! Unlike FO3...
