Observation: Lack of coverage on the murder by nut job at holocaust museum

HomerJS

I scanned the Fox News talking head shows today O'Reilly and Hannity. I wanted to see how they covered the murder of the security guard at the holocaust museum.

I was watching live coverage during midday. There was plenty of time for them to get the story in but they ignored it, why??

MSNBC show covered the story extensively. So what gives? Fox News complained other networks didn't cover the recruiting officer killed by a Muslim convert.

Why ignore the biggest story of the day? I have a theory but I want to hear others.

Using Bill O'Reilly logic, i can only assume Fox News denies the holocaust ever happened

They have a very consistent pattern of not reporting stories much if at all that fir a 'liberal' political point more than a 'right-wing' political point. They'll HARP on the latter.

I'm confused, were you watching live midday coverage, or were you watching O'Reilly and Hannity in prime time?

Um...you are 100% incorrect.

Fox News covered the shooting THE ENTIRE DAY until their prime time lineup started. O'Reily DID cover the issue. In fact O'Reily did an entire segment and a half on the issue.

While I was in the waiting room at the doctor's office this afternoon, they had Fox News on the TV and it was all they were talking about. That Beck guy even had a commentary on it (one of the few times that I have ever watched him).

I beg to differ O'Reilly did not cover the story I recorded it to double check.

Miday I watched a live feed of the story on MSNBC. I'm sure the live Fox feed covered it but that doesn't require commentary. My question is why did the talking heads ignore the story?

How much coverage do you want???

The killer is a total nut job, not much else to talk about after that.

At least with the Tiller murder you could talk about the after effect on the pro-life movement or on the availability of late term abortions etc etc. But when you are dealing with a nut job there really aren't any long range implications.

Just to update my previous comment, I accept the statements that Fox did not ignore this story for political reasons, and am glad to see that.

All I'm saying its odd that the biggest story of the day doesn't get even a mention. There was lots in this guys background that warrented covering. My theory to come soon.

while i despise fox news, they were covering it full time just like every other station as the story unfolded for a few hours after it occured. as for the prime time coverage, i was not watching the tube and do not know what was covered.

O'Reilly is not a news anchor nor is he a field reporter.

I just flipped over to MSNBC right now and Matthews is devoting a segment to how great it is that a Democratic challenger to a standing Rep. Gov. is named "Deeds" and all the wonderful tag lines and catch phrases they can use to win the election.

Not kidding, that's what he's talking about right now during the rebroadcast airing. Not about the killer. Next subject? Mathews is covering the all-important topic of who is leading the Republican Party, Limbaugh or Gingrich. Yeah, MSNBC is devoting "extensive" coverage to your topic as you say they are...

Look, O'Reilly takes subjects where there is are divisive opinions across the country and gives his own. What do you want him to talk about concerning this news story?

As for the rest of the posters in this thread, well... Phokus continues to be the sad, pathetic joke he ever was, and Craig still spouts off everything anti-"right" without a second's thought - but I guess he at least makes up for it... maybe...

Well non-governmental liberals are in a pickle.

They dont want any sympathy for Israel, but they also want to shine the light on a right-winger with a gun.

I dont think they know how to cover it.

It is only the biggest story of the day because of how brainwashed Americans are.

All of the gang murders today = not national news

One murder = national news

The neo-nazi storyline is much more interesting than all the Mexican V Black crime.

I don't know if your TiVo is set to "time machine mode" but O'Reilly DID cover the story.
Look around the 32 minute mark
You have to remember that both O'Reilly and Hannity are News-Talk shows and as such have their topics and guests pre-booked. That is why the vast majority of news stories they talk about occurred the day before.

The funniest part of that statement is that O'Reily HAS covered those issued in depth sever times...and probably many more as I do not catch the sow consistently but have seen several programs dedicated to the issue of Mexican violence in cities especially in border towns.

Where is MSNBC and CNN?

Beck on Fox used the shooting as his lead on todays program.

Devoted a few minutes to identifying the wack-job and posted his photo along with the security guards photo who died in the shooting.

I'm not sure Bill O'Reilly is covering it out of a sense of journalistic integrity or intellectual honesty so much as it's a story that fits nicely into HIS worldview. And more importantly, it's the type of story his audience wants to hear. News is ultimately about getting eyeballs, because news is a business more than anything else. And O'Reilly shows his viewers are, by and large, going to be enthusiastic about anti-Mexican stories. He doesn't cover them because it's good journalism, he covers them because his viewers are racist.
