<--- blasts MetallicA everywhere he goes... whether it be the 9-minute commute to work, a 45-minute drive to see the fiance, or the 8-hour drive it took to get home from school on the occasion.

Hehe... I remember getting laughed at by a group of younger guys (I'm 34) because I was listening to Natalie Merchant at a high volume. I couldn't hear them but when we made eye contact they all got a good laugh. I gave the eye roll...

I listen to a lot of talk shows too. But you call Pete Wilson's voice deep? I love deep voices [from men] and I sure don't consider Pete Wilson's voice deep even with bass enabled. It's nice though.

I get a good laugh when they pass and the most noticeable thing I hear is the sound of the trunk latch, license plate or the rear quarter panels rattling. "Get some Dynamat!? I sometimes yell to them.

It's mostly kids with loud systems that blast them when you'll notice them...and most kids are listening to techno or rap.

I play all sorts of stuff, but I usually turn it down when I enter a pedestrian area, one so I can hear what's going on, and two I have enough attention since I run a side exit exhaust with only a resonator and no muffler.

Stop dissing on what people like to listen to in the car? Has it occured to you guys that's the type of music they would like to listen to in the car? I like listening to trance / classical music in the car because there are no or little vocals in them.

However, I never get tired of seeing the expressions on people's faces when I put the radio on the oldies station and blast bass from that! :D

Sorry, but I don't buy that analogy... All music benefits from a good system. A geforce 4 is designed to run games.

kt - I just made an observation, I never dissed them in my original post... I listen to electronic music too (lots of krautrock and spacemusic), but it's not 99% of what I listen too. I've gotten a few laughs when I have had They Might be Giants cranked though :p

If it is good I play it loud. Pink Floyd, Tricky, old Metallica, Portishead, BR549, The Lost Continentals, The Crystal Method or Miles Davis. It doesn't matter to me as long as it is good. I don't really play classical in the car because I rarely find ones I like to drive with.

You're one of those jackass ricers who makes my ears hurt? Get a muffler. I think you can spare 1 horsepower, even if your engine only makes 120.

Just to say it up front, TMBG is one of my favorite bands. Could their music be heard in 99% of it's range with aftermarket speakers and a nice head unit? Yes. Do you absolutely need subs to get the full effect of TMBG? No.

I have a loud system, but I like a lot of different kinds of music. From Aimee Mann to DMX. I listen to classical, jazz, alt, and rap. All of that music benefits from a good system.

I disagree. If you want to hear the full sound spectrum of any band, you need subs. Listen to SEXXY without subs and then with subs... I believe the live version of 'Like an Angel' off of Severe Tire Damage has some deep bass too. Another example of wear subs really make a song sound amazing is Rush's 'Lock and Key'. Those taurus pedals flesh out the song in a totally different way when you have good low end frequency. Anyways, to apply this somehow to the discussion... people play rap because they have loud systems? To have the sound system dictate whether you like a band or not doesn't say too much about that band.

I 100% agree! My question is why do I hear most loud systems playing rap/techno most of the time? Is it because the largest percentage of music listeners favor rap and techno? Heck, there are so many possible reasons... people who favor those genres tend to be of a certain demographic that drive more often? Who knows!

because the majority of the owners of loud systems listen to rap/electronic solely I would assume

Spooooon accurately stayed "I listen to classical, jazz, alt, and rap. All of that music benefits from a good system." so why do people who listen to rap/electronic
tend to have the most loud systems?
