Obnoxious Friend Won't Stop Attaining Major Life Milestones (The Onion)

I'm almost 30 and couldn't be happier about the fact that I'm not married and don't have kids.

That's great. The best comedy hits on truth.

I know lots of people like the subject of that article, and it really is hard not to feel a little envious of their seemingly picture-perfect lives. If it's any comfort (which it really shouldn't be), no life is perfect, and the people who meet a lot of early success will take it hard when things inevitably start to slow down. I've seen many a washed up, depressed alcoholic with stories of taking the world by storm in their youth as well.

We have had schisms with formerly close friends because our path has diverged from their path and they could not digest this for whatever reason.

Quite a few years ago, my boss pointed out to me, "there are 5 events in a person's life that are considered the most live-changing. The first one is that they're born, the last one is that they die. In between, the three biggest events in your life are getting married, your first baby, and buying your first house. You're doing all three in 1 week."
(Got married, had my purchase offer accepted, and announced that my wife (as of the end of the week) was now preggers.)

I'm in my mid 40's, both of my kids are off to very successful careers the last left the house a year ago. One of my friends I graduated with now has a 2 year old and a 6 month old baby. Given the choice between the way I did it & the way he did it... I think he's insane - he'll be almost ready to retire when his daughter graduates from high school; I've got 20 years to go until retirement & will have a lot of time to spend with grandchildren (time spent doing things like them such as fishing, rather than sitting in a rocking chair, drooling)

Wow, good thing you didn't go 4 for 5.

okay, but I'd rather people wait if they're not ready to have kids at 26.
