Oblivion - Vampirism - great, just great

MichaelD

Lifer
Somehow, I contracted Vampirism and now I'm a full fledged Vampire. I spend 3/4's of my time waiting indoors someplace for nightfall.

The only reason I feed is so that I can actually interact with people without them screaming "No! Get the hell away from me you evil POS!" 🙁

I've already started the quest for the cure. Unfortunately, I already found all the Grand Soul Gems early on and sold them all. I have some cool weapons and spells, but I spend my time just waiting...

And the MOST ANNOYING thing of them all? After I feed, I'm overburdened by almost 100 points. I have some magic boots and a ring that enable me to carry more, but feeding doesn't damage them, so I don't know why. Sometimes, if I wait a few hours, I'm no longer overburdened. Sometimes, I die outside waiting. Don't know if anyone else experiences this or not. Would be interesting to find out.

Bah!

I would like some hints or advice. Fire away.

eh? Grand soul gems should be randomly spawning like any other regular item. You just gotta go through a few dungeons to find them. There should also be plenty for sale at the various mage guilds.

i got vampirism when i played and cheated to finish the quest to get rid of it because i got sick and tired of waiting and everything else like you said.

Hmm, haven't tried to buy them. Haven't really been thinking straight since I got the disease about a week ago (real time 😉)

The increased attributes are great and all, but I've learned enough about how to fight and what spells work with what enemies to not need the attributes. I won't cheat; I'll finish the Cure Quest and be done with it.

Thanks for the replies; good to see everyone else got just as pissed off as me. 😀

I played a Wood Elf and never had an issue 🙂

Maybe that's because... you never got bitten!

I also have built in resistance to diseases. Combined with me being fast as hell and armed with a bow the vampires didn't have much of a chance. 😀

I have a bow and am a Journeyman at it (the one before Master or Expert or whatever the top is). I didn't get bitten, either. When I was in the cave with the vampires, I fought them all hand to hand (I walked into a room with about 5 of them.)

I killed them all with a sword (Claymore of Pain FTW!) and then raided their bodies. I guess touching them is how I contracted it. 🙁

If you have a positive reputation and make it to a temple or priory within 24 hours praying at the altar will remove the disease before it takes hold. After that it's fangs for you >: )=

I think it's not touching them that does it, it's taking damage and failing the check for any disease resistence you might have.

I'm pretty sure if you ever sleep in an open area, you have a good chance at eventually contracting the disease. That's probably how you got it if you don't remember seeing the message that you contracted it while fighting a vampire in close combat (it's easy to miss, so you easily could have gotten it that way).

Don't forget you get the see in the dark ability but more importantly the sense lifeforce ability which will be VERY useful in dungeons... as well as spotting that sleeping guy upstairs you can feed from.

Feed often: dont' be scared 🙂
Once fed you can go a few days before daylight puts the smackdown on you.
Keep collecting those soulgems of course.
Don't be afraid to stand indoors and just hit the 'wait' command. Few seconds of realtime and you'll pass those eight hours of gametime to reach nighttime.

Once you are cured:
If you get reinfected, just go to a church asap and get a cure -- it won't be permanent.

You can go out in daylight after you feed? I would've sworn I did that and got burned anyway. I'll have to try that again.

Interestingly, I contracted this disease "relatively late" in the game. I'm a Level 14 Imperial already. I got it after I reached level 14. Been doing not much but hiding and dungeon crawling since then.

Thanks very much.

i tried to become a vampire forever and ever...then i found out i left god mode on...turned it off and died instantly, lmfao
cheating FTL :'(

If I remember right there was a town that had a vampire in it, and if you slept in that town while he was around you got bit in your sleep without knowing it. I never slept in that town and ended up doing the quest to get rid of him before it he had a chance.

You can also carry along some "potion of cure disease" and just chug one down within 24 after you get bitten ... its also possible to chech what diseases you have at any time while playing so you can tell if you've been infected without the warning message showing.

Yes you can go in daylight all the time, if you drink blood from your victims often. It is easy to forget,so keep feeding.

The vampire cure quest is not hard,it is easy to cheat to get round it,however I actually enjoyed the quest afterwards ,looking back at the time I did not.

CHEAPSKATE . .. . d/l the Vile Plugin for $1.99

use the Altar

Vampirism permanantly cured

Of course you can do the QUEST for the CURE . . . talk to Raminus Polus . . .he will send you to the Count of Skingrad to begin the quest.

Good quest, btw.

UNLESS you want it again [you can use the console to get it and cure it . . . over and over]

i also have the console command to cure it if you really are cheap. 😛

😀

so MUCH mis info here

you get the disease that preceded Vampirism from CONTACT with vampires . . . fighting or accessing their inventory.

NOW . . . if you go to SLEEP before your get cured you become a vampire.

gotta be watchful

ANYway - unles you use the console - you cannot become a vampire after you get cured.

Thanks very much for all the info. I definitely slept after fighting the vampires, and I didn't know about praying at a church for the cure. OH well. Now I know and won't have this problem with my next character.

It would be nice if the game warned you that you've been exposed. I mean, after I fought the vampires I knew I had not been bitten, so I assumed I was cool. Wrong! 😀

it DOES warn you . . . you missed it . . . "You have contracted PH" . . .
anyway if you want the "console cure" i have it . . . somewhere . . .
otherwise just go for the "cure quest" ... or the Vile Plugin

[or just wait for the Expansion Pack - next month - the Vile plugin is included]

I hated it so much that I went into the editor and drop all the items needed to complete the question. But before that I also had to cheat with the 5 grand soulstones because there was a bug... I saved my game and verified this bug over and over... I would have 4 empty soul gems in my inventory, then I would pick up the 5th and then it would remove three from my inventory and leave me with "2"... What a stupid bug. So, I opened the editor and dropped some nice stones (have to be empty ones) right in front of me. Logged back in to some goodness 😀
