Oblivion saved files

I installed oblivion on my extra drive and then i reformated to Vista Ultimate recently. I was wondering if there is a way i can find my saved game before i reinstall the game??

Don't put anything on that drive and see if you can use some recovery software to get them back.

Otherwise, create a new character.

I hate the save game interface in Oblivion. There should be a character selection screen to load your saves as opposed to just a load saved game action.
 
Seeing as how i have to start all over. What's the best race to play with and sign? I mean which type of character should i be?
 
Whatever you want? There's no "best". It all depends on what you like. Do you like to fight up close and personal? Go with some sort of warrior. The good thing about RPGs is that there's usually something you'll find that's good for you.
 
If you're playing without magic, atronach is hands down the best sign, and its not bad for a very light-magic character. If you're using magic, go with the Apprentice. Unlike the other two magicka boosting signs, it has no penalty, which helps a ton.

Racewise, I prefer Dark Elves, as almost all the magic in the game cast against you will be fire and they have a huge fire resistance racial bonus. Redguards work well for warriors, especially early on with that giant attribute boost.
 
How much gold do you guys think i will need? I had 1 million last time but it seemed to be draining fast. I'm going to use the glitch again and get 2 million to be on the safe side.
 
Jesus. I've played legit through the thirties and never carried more than 75,000. Just play the damn game...

Go play Final Fantasy. You can't handle Elder Scrolls.

(I hate the roll eyes emoticon so I wont use it, but this is the one time I really wanted to.)

most people don't realize there are two *backup* saves ... you can edit them if you accidently corrupt the last save

isn't there a mod to separate characters?

and it doesn't matter how you start although there are some *bad combinations* for your character

Gold ... Maxx finshed up at Level 92 [without cheats or the console] and had 8,000,000G and another 5 million or so in goodies ... that IS overkill
 
If you want a bad@ss warrior type character, choose a Nord Warrior, Warrior sign. You'll start out with a natural ability to do frost touch for 50 pts damage (once only per day, of course). Do the sidequest "Unfriendly Competition" in the Imperial City. You should be able to obtain the enchanted mace Calliben's Grim Retort behind a casket from that quest. With that weapon and the frost touch you shouldn't have much trouble killing a legion soldier at level 1 (if you want his armor that is). So right off the bat you have a powerful character.
