Oblivion Question

I have Oblivion for the PC and i decided to store some equipment in the Dark Brotherhood's sanctuary. Is this okay or do i really have to buy a house?

Although the stuff may last a while, I believe only your own house is guaranteed forever. You can get a really cheap house, a shack really, down around the docks of the main city.

it will eventually disappear if you leave your stuff there too long. Like everman said, buy a house.

i stored stuff in a random crate once, and it disappeared pretty quickly

There is a quest you get a cabin for free, but you have to share it with an ork.

I've actually watched someone steal my stuff before. I dumped my stuff in a crate along side a road and watched a roaming bandit or whatever walk up to the crate. When he left, I killed him and found a few of my things on it. Other things were just... gone.
