Oblivion Question

Ok maybe I am just a horrible fighter in this game but every battle is almost my last. In oblivion against the creatures in there, i can BARELY get through each battle. I have to rest after each and every creature that i fight.

On the side quest where i have to kill the vampires for that statue thing, i couldn't handle it. I had to run away from them and let some guards help me take care of them.

There are also creatures in the regular world that do this to me. Is there something that i am doing wrong?

What level are you?
Are you increasing your skills, upgrading your equipment? You can always lower the difficulty slider.

What level are you at?

I'm sure you know that the game levels with you in terms of difficulty.

What are some of your major skills?
Are these leveld properly so when you do fight you stand a chance?

And what kinda character are you? A mage type, or thief, so on and so on...

Have you been levelling up your combat skills? Do you understand the NPC/creature levelling system? You will never become more powerful than your enemies, as they level with you. It's the worst part of the game...

I'll take this oppertunity to plug Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, which is an extensive mod changing many things for the better, including NPC levelling. I run it along with many other mods to get the game just right for me.

I have been keeping up with my equipment. Im working on getting help to Bruma right now.

Well...you could always just practice more.

Have you done any of the arena fights? Good practice there.

Are you blocking while you fight? Kinda block attack and so on seems to work fine.

When your not in a heavy battle, say maybe 1 or 2 enimies try using your sneak and bow and kill from a distance.

BTW: any enchanted items that you cant repair take to a mages guild once you join, then can charge and fix em up for ya.

Well i cant get any farther in the Arena. I have to fight 2 people at once. I cant even get half-way through the first person before i die.

As for the bow and sneak attack, i rely heavily on that. And it works some of the time.

Well i block when i fight occasionally, but i dont really know when im supposed to. I just sort of block sporadically. A lot of times, when i attack they block and i get like dazed or something. My attack bounces off, i assume they are blocking effectively there.

I didn't join the mages guild, because i dont use magicka too much. Should i join anyways?

Also what do the Soul Stones (I think that is the name) do?

Kevin-

Soul gems are used to recharge items.

I would try to learn how to block effectivly, it really helps.

You really should spend some time and ask and SEARCH over at the elder scrolls forums, thoses guys are eager to help and answer questions, and there damn FAST at doing it lol 🙂

You will learn so much there just by asking and reading.

First Tip: Lower the difficulty slider. Thats what its there for. (And it actually works.)
Second Tip: A general rule for ALL video game RPG's is: Start with a fighter.
They tend to be the easiest for noobs and usually stay balanced throughout the game.
Once you get used to the system its OK to play a mage or thief.

I play games all the time at normal and increased difficulty. Is it not uncommon in Oblivion to lower the difficulty slider?

I am pretty much a fighter. My thief skills are only for archery (Also they seemed the best, points on basic attributes). I barely ever use magic...it is all Ranged or Melee Physical attacks.

What about blocking though. I never know when to block. Normally when they are running up to me ill block. Other than that ill really just block randomly.

Oblivion lets you play a character that suits your playing style. If you are a fighter at heart then you should of picked "Warrior" as your birthsign and skills that help you in a stand up fight.

On the other hand this causes you to level too fast and you all the sudden find yourself at level 20 and the creaters you are fighting are too tough for the weapons you have in your inventory.

My second charater in Oblivion is much lower level that what I was at this point in the game with my first character. I have hapmered my leveling by choosing most of my major skills that I do not use as offen. If I want to level I just start using those skills for a while and I level.

This gives me the opertunity to gain experiance in the other skills so I have a higher "+x" to the attributes.

Yeah the +attribute at each level up is VERY important. When you level up and get a +2/3 multiplier instead of +5, your character is actually becoming weaker.

Anyways I think this game is flawed so I stopped playing it. I just hate the way it was designed.

What!? I have never gotten a +5 attribute. I have gotten +3 before (rarely) but never a +5
